Obituary

Wyle Roy, age 52, of Belcourt, ND passed away on Monday, September 2, 2024 at Quentin Burdick Memorial Hospital, Belcourt, ND.

Wyle James Roy was born on June 28, 1972 in Modesto, California to James LaRocque Sr. and Lillian Wilkie.  He was raised in Belcourt by Lillian and Michael Roy Sr., who adopted Wyle at a young age, and completed his GED there as well.  Wyle worked in construction at the Grand Forks Air Base for a few years and later at the Skydancer Casino in Belcourt.  He enjoyed time spent with his longtime companion of over 30 years, Lou Ann Slater and his family members, often playing games and cards, pinochle was a favorite.  He was a member of the Red Thunder Drum Group and was very good at singing and drumming, which brought him much joy.  He liked the outdoors, fishing, and reading as well.  Wyle will be lovingly remembered and forever missed.

Wyle is survived by his companion, LouAnn Slater of Belcourt; step-children, Marshall Allery and Edward Allery, both of Belcourt; half-siblings, Margie (Kevin) Poitra of Dunseith, Michael Roy Jr. of Lake Tahoe, Calif., James "Cubby" Jr. (Valerie) LaRocque of Belcourt, Brian (Renee) LaRocque of Belcourt, Brent (Tina) LaRocque of Bismarck, and Lynn LaRocque of Belcourt; Godchildren, Amanda LaFountain of Fargo, Jackie Martin of Minot, and Chani LaRocque of Belcourt; two special family members, Travis Slater and Brexli Jeanotte; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles.

Wyle was preceded in death by his father, James LaRocque Sr., mother, Lillian Wilkie, adoptive father, Michael Roy Sr., Godchild, Cole Martell, whom he raised as a son, and siblings, Arne LaRocque, Darlene LaRocque, and Ronnie Counts.

Casket Bearers are Brian LaRocque, Shylo Belgarde, Brad Davis, Frank Slater, Kevin Poitra, and Lance Jay. Drum group will be Red Thunder Drum Group.

A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, September 9, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Fiddler's Hall, Belcourt, ND with visitation beginning at 9:00 AM.  Burial will take place in St. Ann's Catholic Cemetery, Belcourt, ND at a later date. A meal will follow funeral services at Fiddler's Hall.
