William R. Poitra, age 83, of Belcourt, ND passed away on Monday, June 13, 2022 at the Belcourt Hospital, Belcourt, ND.

William R. Poitra, "Bill," was born on July 2, 1938 in Belcourt, ND to Julius Poitra and Madeline Poitra.  He was raised in Belcourt and attended school in Flandreau, SD.  William worked as a brick layer for many years in many different locations throughout North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin, belonging to the Brick Layers Union, retiring in 2001.  He was united in marriage to Ida Martin on September 22, 2007 at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Belcourt.  He was the father of seven children from a previous marriage, Steve, Sherry, Bill Jr., Kent, Travis, Michelle, Katie, as well as step-father to nine children, Gary, Jamie, Perry, Marty, Pamie, Paula, Glen, Shelly, and Dekotah.  William loved time spent with Ida traveling to many destinations including Las Vegas, Deadwood, SD, Washington, California, Oregon, Minnesota, Mississippi, and Graceland!  He enjoyed visiting with all whom he came in contact with.  William also like playing poker, going out to eat "good food," gardening, enjoying fresh vegetables, and cutting the grass.  He also enjoyed watching television, especially the Price is Right.  William will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by his family and many friends.

William is survived by his wife, Ida Poitra of Belcourt; children, Sherry, Bill Jr., Steve, Kent, Katie and Michelle; step-children, Glen (Lori) Goulet, Shelly (Kyle Enno) Goulet-LaVallie, and Dekotah (Cynthia) Martin; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

William was preceded in death by his parents, step-father, Bill Boucher, son, Travis Poitra, step-children, Gary, Jamie, Perry, Marty, Pamie, and Paula, and brother, Larry Poitra.

Casket Bearers are Lee Gourneau (Kyle Enno), Mike Malaterre, Ronny Allery, Tanner Norling, Dave Poira, and Nate Ziegler.  Rosary by Denise Keplin.  Honorary Bearers are all family and friends.  Reader/Eulogy by Phyllis Jollie and Jeannie Jollie.  Eucharistic gifts by Duane and Michelle Martin.  Pall placed by his children.  Music by Joe Parisien and Richard Turcotte.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, June 17, 2022 at 9:00 AM in St. Ann's Catholic Church, Belcourt, ND with visitation beginning at 7:00 AM and Rosary Service at 8:00 AM prior to the funeral mass.  Father Jeff Eppler presiding.  Burial will follow funeral services at St. Ann's Catholic Cemetery, Belcourt, ND.
