Obituary

William Peterson Jr., age 68, of Belcourt, ND passed away on Saturday, August 31, 2024 at North Dakota Veteran's Hospital, Fargo, ND.

Willam Arden Peterson, Jr. was born on November 21, 1955 in Honolulu, Hawaii to William Sr. and Blanche Alma (Grant) Peterson.  He was raised in Belcourt, a member of the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa, and completed his education there as well.  William furthered his education at college for one year.  He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1973 and received an honorable discharge in 1975.  He later enlisted in the United States Army National Guard and received an honorable discharge in 2004. William was very proud of his military service and was a member of the Lilley-Dionne American Legion Post #262 of Belcourt.  He worked as a building manager and in investments for Coldwell Banker for many years. He enjoyed watching NASCAR, especially Dale Jr., cheering on the Vikings during football season, and watching reality television shows like "Big Brother."  William liked his hot dogs and pizza nights, his favorite meals.  He will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed.

William Jr. is survived by his children, Cory (Tabitha) Peterson of Wasilla, AK, Arden (Samantha) Adler of Austin, TX, Adam (Hannah) Peterson of Portland, OR, and Dawn (Tim) Dobler of Culpeper, VA; eight grandchildren; siblings, Cornelius (Rose) Grant of Bismarck, Lana (Mick) DeCoteau of Belcourt, and Toni (Kevin) Nelson of Bottineau; nieces and nephews.

William Jr. was preceded in death by his parents, William Sr. and Blanche Alma Peterson, sisters, Donna (Richard) Johnson, Mary Alice Peterson, Mary Jane (John) Necaise, Carleen Parisien, and Lisa (Michael "Joker") Laducer.

Urn Bearer is Adam Peterson. Honorary Urn Bearer is all Family and Friends. Rosary led by Jeannie Jollie. Readers are Crista Davis and Kayla O'Toole.  Music by C. Joe Parisien. Eulogy by Mike and Jorden Laducer. Eucharistic Gifts by Billie Jo Parisien-DeCoteau, Nada Parisien, Toni Nelson, and Lana DeCoteau.  Military Honors by the Lilley-Dionne American Legion Post #262 of Belcourt and the Military Funeral Honor Guard of Grand Forks.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, September 9, 2024 at 10:00 AM at St. Ann's Catholic Church, Belcourt, ND with a Rosary Service at 9:00 AM prior to the funeral mass. Father Michael Slovak presiding. The family would like to invite all in attendance to honor the memory of William Jr. to the church basement for desserts and refreshments following funeral services and military honors. Burial will be held at the North Dakota Veteran's Cemetery, Fargo, ND at a later date.
