Obituary

William E. DeMontigny, age 89, of Belcourt, ND passed away on Thursday, February 8, 2024 at his home.

William Euclid DeMontigny was born on March 18, 1934 in Belcourt, ND to John and Laura (Wilkie) DeMontigny.  He was raised in Belcourt for a short time and then moved with his family to Grand Forks, ND.  He enlisted in the United States Army and received an honorable discharge in 1961.  William was united in marriage to Deanna Falcon on August 10, 2000 in Belcourt.  He was the father of a daughter, Myra and two adopted sons, William and Christopher, as well as a father to stepchildren Jared, Matthew, and Allison.  William currently worked as general manager for the road department in Belcourt.  He owned and operated Northwestern company with heavy equipment for 27 years all over the state, worked for Turtle Mountain Transportation for 22 years in Belcourt, as well as training to become a master plumber and becoming a pilot for 10 years. William enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, picking berries, and feeding his birds.  He was a jack of all trades and liked mechanic and construction work.  William was a mover, always going to do things and had his day planned ahead of time.  He was loved dearly by his wife, children, grandchildren, brother, and friends.  He was an active member of Lilley-Dionne American Legion Post #262 of Belcourt. William loved music and played his mandolin nightly at home. He will be forever remembered and missed.

William is survived by his wife, Deanna DeMontigny of Belcourt; adopted sons, William DeMontigny of Grand Forks and Christopher DeMontigny of Virginia; stepchildren, Jared (Suzanne) Falcon of Rolla, Matthew Falcon of Belcourt, and Allison (Matthew) Desjarlais of Belcourt; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren; brother, Charles (Roxanne) DeMontigny of Washington; and nieces and nephews.

William was preceded in death by his parents, John and Laura DeMontigny, daughter, Myra DeMontigny, and brothers, John Jr., Armand, and Lionel DeMontigny.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Fiddler's Hall, Belcourt, ND. Military Honors by the Lilley-Dionne American Legion Post #262 of Belcourt and the ND Military Funeral Honor Guard of Grand Forks.
