William "Bill"
Alexander Mckay
Aug 21, 1935 — Oct 15, 2021
William A. "Bill" McKay
Bill McKay was born August 21, 1935 in Rolla, ND to Norval and Myra (Monson) McKay. He passed away October 15, 2021 in Hillsboro, ND.
When Bill was growing up, he helped his dad on the farm, worked for neighboring farmers and also helped his mom's brothers. After graduation, Bill went into the Army in 1958 and was discharged in 1960. He was stationed in Germany and worked as a tank mechanic. His time in the Army was very important to him, he was forever a patriot.
He married Myrna Hunt in 1963. Myrna had a daughter, Sandy Berg, and they had another daughter, Patti.
Bill worked for many years at the Ford Garage, first as a body man and then as a parts man. In 1975, Bill and Myrna bought a bar in Rock Lake, ND. In 1978, they moved to his parents' farm south of Rolla and ran the Club Bar and Corner Off Sale. Although Bill and Myrna divorced in 1982, Bill was still very much a part of the Hunt family.
Bill's passions were family, farming, flying and fishing. He loved the fishing trips with his brother Ron and helping his brother Doug at Paula's Place in Mooreton, ND. Doug was a pilot and they did a lot of flying together. Bill had an ultralight plane he flew out around the farm south of Rolla. Harley Davidson's were another interest and he bought his first Harley when he 72 years old.
After retirement, Bill traveled to Arizona in the winters to spend time with Sandy. He liked hiking and going to listen to country western music. In 1997, he and Patti traveled around Scotland, spending some time in Lairg, where the McKay homestead is located. Bill moved to Hillsboro ND and loved to spend weekends at the Walleye World Campground by Pelican Lake, MN.
The most cherished time Bill spent was with his daughters, son-in-law, and his grandchildren; however, time spent with his great-grandson, Weston, was the highlight of his life. Bill was anxiously awaiting the newest great grandson (Brendan and Laura's baby) arriving in early December.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Norval and Myra; four sisters: Barbra Deboi, Beverly Hall, Janice Skovholt and Betty Pope; one brother: Doug McKay; nephew Scott McKay; niece Lisa Skovholt.
He is survived by his daughters, Sandy Berg and Patti (Bill) Kritzberger; brother, Ronald (Jan) McKay; his grandchildren, Alicia (Edd) Titus-Hickman, Brendan (Laura) Boe, and Marisa (Brandon) Sailer, as well as his great-grandson, Weston Miller, who was his pride and joy…his "little man"; many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers are Jeff Skovholt, Korey Skovholt, Blake McKay, Greg McKay, Ryan McKay, and Rick McKay. Honorary Pallbearers: Jeff Deboi, Kelly Wise, Roger Hunt, Jim and Gary Hunt, Mark and Randy Hunt, Jerry Hunt, Jr., Rod and Steve O'Brien. Military Honors by the Fred C.
