Verlyn DuBois, age 63, of Dunseith, ND passed away on Friday, January 22, 2021 in Belcourt, ND.

Verlyn James DuBois, Wabishka Makwa (White Bear), was born on June 28, 1957 in Belcourt, ND to Robert E. and Elizabeth (Kakenowash) DuBois.  He attended Greatwalker Elementary School, completing High School in Flandreau, SD, and then furthering his education at college in Bismarck, ND.  He worked in Sidney, MT, was a parent aid at Belcourt Schools, a police officer, and was currently working as a security guard for Turtle Mountain Housing Authority.  He was once married to Flora Beston and together they had three children, Rhonda, Jennifer, and Amy, they later divorced.  He then married the love of his life, Doris "Pebbles" Belgarde on December 28, 1993 in Bottineau and together they had three children, Derek, Evan, and Sheyenne.  They were raising three grandchildren as well, Evan Jr., Braylie, and Michael. Verlyn enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and hunting, going to the casino, and cooking.  He valued his traditional ways, was pipe carrier, traditional dancer, and a spiritual leader.  He traveled throughout the United States and Canada going to Pow-wows, Sundances, and was keeper of the Sweat Lodge.  He enjoyed loading up the kids and going to Minot to McDonalds or KFC.   He loved his grandchildren unconditionally but Michael held a special place in his Papa's heart.  He was part of many drum groups, especially "Northern Straight" drum group and officiated many funeral services.  He was a softball champion and won numerous trophies all over North Dakota and Minnesota. Verlyn loved to visit with people and had a wonderful and inviting personality. Verlyn will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed.

Verlyn is survived by his wife, Doris "Pebbles" DuBois of Dunseith; children, Ronda DuBois, Jennifer DuBois, Amy DuBois, Derek DuBois, Evan DuBois, and Sheyanne DuBois, all of Dunsieth; grandchildren, Teyha, Koby, Adam, Anna, Mila, Malach, Justice, Evan Jr., Braylie, Sayvan, Rayland, and Michael; siblings, Dennie, Ronald, Tommy, and Bradley; sisters, Marla Norquay, Sandra DuBois, Peggy (David) Belgarde, and Brenda (John) Poitra; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Elizabeth DuBois, brother, Clarence DuBois, sisters, Vivian Delorme and Gerrie DuBois, numerous nieces and nephews, and best friends, Dennis Desjarlais and Burt Meecus.

A visitation will begin at 4:00 PM on Thursday, January 28, 2021 at Fiddler's Hall, Belcourt, ND.  A meal will be held on Friday, January 29, 2021 at NOON followed by a 2:00 PM Funeral Service, all at Fiddler's Hall, Belcourt, ND.  Burial will follow funeral services at White Stone Cemetery, Belcourt, ND.
