Verlin “Jack” LaVallie, age 67, of Belcourt, ND passed away on Wednesday, August 19, 2026 at HIA Heather’s House, Fargo, ND, surrounded by his loving family.
Verlin Edward “Jack” LaVallie was born on June 17, 1959 in Belcourt, ND to Emil E. LaVallie Sr. and Evelyn (Short) LaVallie. Jack was raised in Belcourt and completed his education at Turtle Mountain Schools. He furthered his education at United Tribes College, obtaining a certificate in plumbing. He then worked at the Belcourt Hospital in property and supply for a short time. Jack continued his education at Turtle Mountain College receiving an associate of arts in carpentry. He was united in marriage to Pamela Brien on July 25, 1980 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Belcourt. He was the proud father of three children, Edward LaVallie, Chad Crissler, and Cherish LaVallie. Jack worked for Turtle Mountain Manufacturing for many years before retiring due to his health. He enjoyed fishing, especially with Dalbert, his carpentry and working on cars, a true “jack of all trades.” Jack loved spending time with is family, his wife, his children, grandchildren, siblings, playing cards of all kinds and skipbo. He had a wonderful personality, always joking around and making those around him smile. Jack enjoyed all people, he was a truly happy soul. He will be lovingly remembered and forever missed.
Jack is survived by his loving wife, Pamela LaVallie of Belcourt; children, Edward LaVallie (Shawna Trottier), Chad Crissler, and Cherish LaVallie, all of Belcourt; grandchildren, Ilea (Isaac) Short, Ian LaVallie, Emmylynn LaVallie, Laney Slater, Chad Crissler Jr., and Keerie Crissler; great grandchild, Taven Short; siblings, Yvonne Smith, Betty (Dave) Bruce, Emil D. “Joey” LaVallie, Alan “Peter” LaVallie, and Clayton P. (Anna Giron) LaVallie, all of Belcourt; father-in-law, Dalbert Brien of Belcourt; sister-in-law, Gail (Kelly) Parisien of Belcourt; Godchildren, Zayne Ty Parisien, Jamie Bercier, and Shayla Malaterre; and many nieces and nephews.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, Albert “Bobby” LaVallie, Larry “Jimmy” LaVallie, and Janie Wallette, grandchildren, Isaac LaVallie and Baby girl Blackwell, Godchild, Zachary Tayler Parisien, mother-in-law, Phyllis Brien, brother-in-law, Dale Brien, and sister-in-law, Cindy Kay Colleen Brien.
Casket Bearers are Emil LaVallie, Wally DeCoteau, Edward LaVallie, Ian LaVallie, Troy Trottier, and Clayton LaVallie. Honorary Bearer is Alan LaValllie. Music by Patty Allery. Rosary led by Roberta DeCoteau. Eucharistic gifts by Ilea Short, Ian LaValllie, and Emmylynn LaVallie.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, August 24, 2026 at 10:00 AM at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Belcourt, ND with visitation beginning at 8:00 AM and Rosary Service at 9:00 AM prior to the funeral mass. Burial will follow funeral services at St. Ann’s Catholic Cemetery, Belcourt, ND.
