Obituary

Trotter Wilkie, Waabishkibines "White Thunderbird", age 48, of Belcourt, ND made his journey to the Spirit World on Monday, September 16, 2024 at his home.

Trotter Lawrence Wilkie was born on March 31,1976 in Grand Forks, ND to James Whitman and Leslie Wilkie.  He was raised in Belcourt and completed his education through Belcourt Schools.  Trotter furthered his education at Turtle Mountain Community College in Belcourt, working to obtain an associate's degree.  He was a talented artist, following in his grandpa Lawrence's footsteps. He loved painting many beautiful images of horses and abstract buffalo. He enjoyed riding horses especially on the trails in the Black Hills.  He was an avid Vikings fan and collected a lot of memorabilia associated with the team he loved. Trotter was a movie buff, and would quote many characters' dialogs word for word, and also enjoyed playing pinochle and board games with his siblings and friends, who say he never lost. He even invented his own Indian Aggravation board game.  He was a brown belt in taekwondo, and had a wonderful sense of humor, always telling jokes to those around him and reading the "Far Side" books.  He loved time spent with his family members and friends.  Trotter will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed.

Trotter is survived by his mother and dad, Leslie and Clark Peltier of Belcourt; father, James Whitman of Garrison; paternal grandmother Julia Burcham, siblings, Willow (Justin) Trottier of Belcourt, Sage Peltier of Belcourt, Crystal Peltier (Gordon) of the Red Lake Nation, MN, Monica Peltier of Belcourt, and Kamie Peltier of St. John; and numerous nieces. nephews, cousins. aunts and uncles.

Trotter was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lawrence and Elma D. Wilkie, Peter Patrick Peltier, Carl and Edith Whitman, aunties, Janny Whitman, Sharon Whitman, Darlene Whitman, Juliane Gillette, uncle, Steve Peltier, and Godfather, James GreatWalker.

A Traditional ceremony will be held on Friday, September 20, 2024 at 10:00 AM at the Eagle Heart Cultural Center, in Dunseith, ND with visitation beginning at 9:00.
