Terence John
Thompson
Aug 1, 1939 — Feb 20, 2026
Terence John Thompson, 86 of Washburn, North Dakota, formerly of Rolette, North Dakota died peacefully at his home on Friday, February 20, 2026.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM at Valle Lutheran Church in Rolette, North Dakota on Thursday, February 26, 2026 with visitation One Hour prior to funeral services. A visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Wednesday, February 25, 2026 at Valle Lutheran Church, Rolette, North Dakota. Pastor Gene Wilson officiating.
Terry was born August 1, 1939 in Rolette, ND to Troy and Pearl (Johnson) Thompson. He graduated from Rolette High School in 1958. He married Marlene Graber on September 15, 1961. After his service in the Air Force, they made their home in Rolette where they raised 3 children while Terry worked as a pipefitter. Terry and Marlene moved to Mesa, AZ in 1986 where he started a plumbing business. In 2005, after 25 years in Arizona, they retired the "opposite way" and returned to North Dakota where they found their little piece of paradise near Washburn on the Missouri River where Terry spent his remaining days.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who was very proud of his wife, children and grandchildren and would brag to anyone about them whenever the opportunity arose. He was kind and generous and would lend a helping hand to anyone who asked. Terry was an avid hunter that passed down his love of the outdoors to his son and grandsons and enjoyed many adventures with them. He was very mechanical and was always tinkering with projects and could fix anything with some wire, a pipe clamp and duct tape.
Terry was most happy just being on the river. He especially loved taking his grandkids on the pontoon to explore the sandbars up and down the Missouri. In his later years he enjoyed feeding his birds, working on his lawn, and visiting with any friends that stopped by where a cold beer was always waiting.
He will be missed by Marlene, his loving wife of 64 years; daughters, Terri (Mike) Mongeon of Rolette, Tammi (Jeff) Fugere of Minot, and son, John (Naomi) Thompson of Wilton; grandchildren, Mason Mongeon of Los Angeles, CA, Matt (Anna) Mongeon of Rolette, Whitney (Derek) Borud of Minot, Chase Fugere, Connor (Sam) Thompson of Dickinson, Christian (Maddie) Thompson of Bismarck, and Erin Thompson of St. Paul, MN; great grandchildren, Wells and Birdie Mongeon, Bristol and Vaida Borud, and Myles Thompson; and sister, Betty Grenier of Mesa, AZ.
Terry was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Tom and Dean, and grandson, Chase Fugere.
