Tammy Poitra, age 50, of Belcourt, ND, passed away on Friday, January 10, 2025, at Quentin Burdick Memorial Hospital in Belcourt, ND.
Tammy was born on May 18, 1974, in El Paso, Texas, to Dale and Hedwig (Michalczyk) Poitra. As the daughter of a dedicated U.S. Army serviceman, Tammy spent her early years living in various places, including Texas, Germany, Arizona, and Washington, before settling in Belcourt, ND, in May 1986 when her father retired after 20 years of service.
Tammy graduated from Belcourt High School and pursued further education at Turtle Mountain Community College. She found great joy in being a mother to her four children—Mykel, Christopher, Kaitlyn, and Kristen—and cherished the time spent with her grandchildren, who were the light of her life.
Tammy's career reflected her creative and caring nature. She worked at the Rolette Care Center in housekeeping and shared her artistic talents as a florist at various flower shops in the area. Tammy loved crafting beautiful floral arrangements that brought joy to others. In her leisure time, she enjoyed visiting the casino and making memories with friends and family.
Tammy will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who touched the lives of everyone around her.
She is survived by her children: Mykel Poitra of Belcourt, Christopher Greene of Federal Dam, MN, and Kaitlyn Poitra of Rolla; her eight grandchildren: Kaylauni, Kyrie, Emory, Maverik, Houston, Joe, Paris, and Troy; and her siblings: Jeanette (Chad Desjarlais) Poitra of Belcourt, Patty (Robert) Longie of Belcourt, Jackie (Pete) Gillis of Dunseith, Freddy (Joann Fields) Poitra of Queen Creek, AZ, and Caroline (Erick Malaterre) Poitra of Belcourt. Tammy also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who adored her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dale and Hedwig Poitra, and her beloved daughter, Kristen Poitra.
Casket Bearers: Bryant Davis, Erick Malaterre, Chad Desjarlais, Kenyon LaFountaine, Xadrian Keplin, and Robert Longie.
Honorary Bearers: All family and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, January 16, 2025, at 10:00 AM, at St. Ann's Catholic Church, Belcourt, ND. Visitation will begin at 8:00 AM, followed by a Rosary Service at 9:00 AM prior to the funeral mass. Burial will take place at a later date in St. Ann's Catholic Cemetery.
Arrangements are entrusted to Elick Funeral Home, Rolla, ND.
