Susan Wilkie, age 73, of Belcourt, ND passed away peacefully on Friday, July 23, 2021 at the Belcourt Hospital, Belcourt, ND.

Susan Marie (Azure) Wilkie was born on August 19, 1947 in Belcourt, ND to Raymond and Margaret "Maggie" (Morin) Azure.  She was raised in Belcourt and completed her education there as well.  She furthered her education at Bottineau College and Mayville College obtaining her Bachelor of Education Degree, and then the University of North Dakota receiving a Master's in Education Leadership Degree.  Susan was united in marriage to Oscar Wilkie Sr.  She was the proud mother of four children, Oscar Jr., Marilyn, Gene, and Jerilyn "Chickie".  Susan was very active in her community, participating in a broad range of professional work and community activities. Susan contributed on the Belcourt School District Board of Education, served as a teacher at Turtle Mountain Middle school, and later Assistant Principal. Susan also worked for the Tribal Drug Court, being the first woman to work within that program. She worked additional jobs including, a Tribal loan officer, Human Service Case Manager, Restaurant/Resort Manager, graduate school instructor, and finally HR at the Skydancer Casino.

Susan was multi-faceted, possessing many talents and passions. What Susan was going to do next, was always a wonder! Most importantly, Susan had a passion for working with children and adults most in need, as it brought her much joy to act as in the capacity of advocate.  She enjoyed debating politics whether it was tribal, state, or national debates. She was an amazing cook and cake decorator, which transpired into a summer career for her for many years. Susan loved all of nature, including the animals around her, especially her beloved horses. Susan could often be found sitting and looking out her window enjoying the birds and everything nature had to offer. Susan also loved going to the casino, playing bingo, and especially spending time with her family members and friends talking about the latest political and controversial events. Her fire and spirit will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed.

Susan is survived by her children, Marilyn (Mitch) Laducer of Belcourt, Gene (Jen) Wilkie of Hillsboro, and Jerilyn Wilkie(Marc) of Wildomar, CA; nineteen grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; siblings, Jean Domben, Leonard (Roberta) Azure, Deborah (Lynn) Gourneau, Larry Azure, Mary (Terry) Morin, Fred Azure, Keith (Melinda) Azure, and Dean (Michelle) Azure; and many nieces and nephews.

Susan was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Maggie Azure, husband, Oscar Wilkie Sr., son, Oscar Wilkie Jr., grandson, Oscar Wilkie III, great grandson, Myles Allen, and brothers, Greg Azure, Howard Azure, and Dwight Azure.

Honorary Bearers are all family and friends.

A Memorial Mass will be Friday, August 27, 2021 at 9:30 AM at St. Ann's Catholic Church, Belcourt, ND.  Burial will follow in St. Ann's Catholic Cemetery, Belcourt, ND, with a celebration of her life immediately after at KC Hall, Belcourt, ND.
