Steven Thomas, age 87, of Belcourt, ND passed away on Tuesday, August 8, 2023 at SMP Health St. Raphael, Valley City, ND.

Steven Wallace Thomas was born on November 20, 1935 in Belcourt, ND to Frank and Mary (Dionne) Thomas.  He was raised in Belcourt and completed his education there as well. He moved to Montana where he met his "hunny", Julia. Steven was united in marriage to Julia Martinez on July 27, 1961 in Miles City, MT.  Together they had six children, Connie, Frank, Christine, Steve Jr., Cathleen, and Johnny. Steven was a cattle rancher throughout his life.  He loved being outdoors, cutting grass, horseback riding, taking care of his cats, and just out for a walk.  Steve was a hardworking man from his youth until retirement. He enjoyed family time, working on his van, collecting iron and copper, gardening, bingo and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a man of many stories and wisdom. The Legace he left behind will forever live on through his friends and family. He will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed.

Steven is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Julia Thomas of Belcourt; children, Frank Thomas of Billings, MT, Christine Thomas of Belcourt, Steve Thomas Jr. of Bismarck, Cathleen Thomas of Sidney, MT, and Johnny Thomas of Minnewaukan; 13 grandchildren, Clifford Jr., Crystal, Ashley, Jessica, Lacey, Misty, Cody, Kayla, Kyle, Kelsey, Candy, Kaitlyn, and David; 21 great grandchildren; and a brother, Gene Thomas of Belcourt.

Steven was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Mary Thomas, daughter, Connie Rosie Thomas, sisters, Eva, Nora, and Doris, and brothers, Larry, Antione, and Francis, and a grandchild, Kalin Thomas.

Casket Bearers are Steve Thomas Jr., Johnny Thomas, Ashley Azure, Kyle Thomas, Deandre Brunelle, and David Thomas. Eucharistic gifts by Christine Thomas and Ashley Azure. Readers are Jessica and Lacey Brunelle.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, August 14, 2023 at 10:00 AM at St. Ann's Catholic Church, Belcourt, ND with a visitation beginning at 8:00 AM and Rosary Service at 9:00 AM prior to the funeral mass.  Burial will follow in St. Ann's Catholic Cemetery, Belcourt, ND.
