Shirley DeCoteau, age 79, of Belcourt, ND passed away peacefully on Friday, June 13, 2025 at Sheyenne Crossings, West Fargo, ND.

Shirley was born on July 28, 1945 in Belcourt, ND to Simon and Josephine (Azure) Dionne.  She was raised in Belcourt and completed her education there as well, graduating from Belcourt Schools in 1965. She furthered her education at UND in Grand Forks obtaining a Bachelor Degree in Elementary Education.  Shirely was united in marriage to Raymond DeCoteau on June 8th, 1974 at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Belcourt.  Together they raised a son, Chad.  Shirley worked for Turtle Mountain Community Schools as an elementary teacher, mainly kindergarten, until her retirement in 2006. She then held a position at St. Ann's Catholic School for a couple years and lastly at Tiny Turtles in Belcourt.  Shirley loved time spent with her family members, her husband, her son and his wife, Alissa, grandchildren, Christian, Emersyn, and Ellyette, and her siblings.  Shirley enjoyed playing Bingo in her spare time, going to Saturday evening mass with her siblings, and keeping in touch with her family and friends through social media. Shirley was deeply loved by her family members and friends.  She will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed.

Shirley is survived by her husband of 51 years, Raymond DeCoteau of Belcourt; son, Chad (Alissa) DeCoteau of West Fargo, ND; grandchildren, Christian, Emersyn, and Ellyette DeCoteau; sister, Joyce Morin of Belcourt; and many nieces and nephews.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Simon and Josephine Dionne, infant son, Sean DeCoteau, and siblings, Irene LaFountain, Mabel Beck, Donald Dionne, Raymond Dionne, Edward Dionne, Leonard Dionne, Larry Dionne, and Art Dionne.

A visitation will begin at 5:00 PM on Wednesday, June 18, 2025 at St. Ann's Catholic Church, Belcourt, ND with a Rosary Service at 7:00 PM.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, June 19, 2025 at St. Ann's Catholic Church, Belcourt, ND.  Burial will follow funeral services in St. Ann's Catholic Cemetery, Belcourt, ND.
