Obituary

Sheila Ann Desjarlais (Kat), age 70, of Belcourt, ND passed away on Sunday, November 30, 2025, surrounded by her family at her home.

Sheila Ann Desjarlais was born on April 6, 1955 in Belcourt, ND to Eugene Brunelle Sr. and Mary Ann (Blue) Wilkie.  She was raised in Belcourt and graduated from Belcourt High School in 1975. Sheila was united in marriage to Terry Desjarlais on November 27, 1997 at St. Ann's Catholic Church. Her strong work ethic was evident in every role she took on – from her time at Skydancer Casino in Belcourt to her earlier years working dispatch in Mandan and Belcourt. She carried responsibility with quiet dignity and genuine care for the people she served. Sheila was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, co-worker and friend. Anyone that had the honor of knowing her knew she loved her family, especially her children and grandchildren. She shared a special bond with Ashtyn Lee, Dally Dude, and Deklyn Daniel. Sheila enjoyed reminiscing about her glory days (younger days) any chance she got. She would speak of how she was a tomboy in her younger years, who wasn't afraid to get her hands dirty. She enjoyed quilting and sewing in her spare time, having a brewskie any chance she got, the outdoors, caring for her plants, caring for her animals, tending to her garden, and going fishing with her children and grandchildren. She took pride in her household chores, especially her laundry; and, her Silver Stallion (her truck). She was a devoted Catholic and said her rosary twice a day; and, never missed Sunday mass. She would attend most wakes, always showing up to support ones in their time of need; and, she never forgot her famous egg salad sandwiches. Simple, comforting and made with the same love she showed everyone. Sheila cared deeply for those around her.  She will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed. She was the glue to our family, that knew how to bring the family together with the meals she lovingly prepared. Her table was the heart of her home. As loving and kind as she was, she was never afraid to speak her mind. Her presence will be missed; but each time the wind sings through her wind chimes, we'll be reminded that she's still close in spirit.

Sheila is survived by her children, Edie (Edward Jr.) Brien of Belcourt; Jackie Morin of Belcourt; Darien (Desiree) Desjarlais of Belcourt; Terry Lee (Shariah) Desjarlais of Belcourt; Niklais (Chelsi) Desjarlais of Belcourt; and, Harmony Bercier of Grand Forks; 27 grandchildren, including two special grandchildren, Caitlin Morin and Ethan Morin; 11 great grandchildren; siblings, Allan Blue of Belcourt, Shelly St. Claire of Fargo, and Denise Blue of Fargo; and nieces and nephews.

Sheila was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, Jennifer Morin, three grandchildren, Justis Morin, Jenna Morin, and Kai Desjarlais, two brothers, Eugene "Guy" Brunelle Jr. and Arthur "Dinky" Brunelle.
