Sharon Ballow, age 85, of Belcourt, ND was called home to heaven on Monday, August 17, 2026 at Altru Hospital, in Grand Forks, ND, surrounded by her loving children.

Sharon Marie Ballow was born on October 13, 1940 in Belcourt, ND to Emil and Emily (Brunelle) Gourneau. She was raised in Belcourt and graduated from Belcourt High School. She lived in Grand Forks from 1970 to 1983, then in Montana until 1987, and then moved back to Belcourt in 1987 until the her passing. Sharon was the proud mother of six children, Brian, Peggy, Tammy, Renee, Lisa and Jennifer. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, never missing a family event. Sharon worked at Ojibwa Indian School as an administrative secretary for many years. She was deeply devoted to her faith, praying the Rosary and being involved with the Novina every year. She enjoyed bingo, playing cards, and going to the casino, especially 4-card poker and let it ride. Sharon had a wonderful personality and loved visiting her family as well as many others. She will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed.

Sharon is survived by her children, Brian (Bonnie) Gourneau of Grand Forks, Peggy Ballow of Texas, Tammy (EJ Lambert) Ballow of Belcourt, Renee (Greg) Boswell of Belcourt, Lisa Ballow-Bruce of Dunseith, and Jennifer Schmidt of Alexandria, MN; 18 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; siblings, Lee (Alfreda) Gourneau of Belcourt, Carol Gourneau of Belcourt, and Della Rose Sample of Milwaukee, WI; and many nieces and nephews and extended family.

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, Emil and Emily Gourneau, brothers, Frank, Larry, Stanley, Timmy, and Andrew, sisters, Judy and Ann Mae, granddaughter, Rory Davis, grandson Izayis Lilly, her Godchildren, Dave Gourneau and Janelle Gourneau.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, August 28, 2026 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Belcourt, ND with visitation beginning at 8:00 AM and Rosary Service at 9:00 AM prior to the funeral mass. A meal will be held at the Turtle Mountain Round House Powwow Grounds, Belcourt, ND following the burial at St. Ann’s Catholic Cemetery, Belcourt, ND.
