Rose Poitra, age 86, of Belcourt, ND passed away on Tuesday, May 24, 2022 at St. Kateri Hospital, Rolla, ND.

Rose Marie Poitra was born on July 29, 1935 in Belcourt, ND to Ambrose and Flora (Vivier) Nadeau.  She was raised in Belcourt and completed her education there as well.  Rose was united in marriage to Arlind Poitra and together they had four children, Cary, Philip, David and Roderick, they later divorced.  She later met Gilbert L. DeCoteau and together they had five children, Wanda, Hubert, Yvonne, Yvette, and Dana.  Rose also raised two of her grandchildren, Christopher and Jeffrey Poitra.  Rose worked as a care giver throughout her life, as a nurse aide, at the IHS Belcourt Hospital.  She retired after many years and truly loved her job caring for others, which she continued to do until she was not able.  Rose enjoyed the outdoors, going fishing, gardening, tending to her flowers, and especially taking long walks.  She liked going on trips to the casino with friend, Jackie Selberg, reading and loved the time she was able to spend with family.  Rose will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed.

Rose is survived by her children, Cary (Joida) Poitra of Rhinelander, WI, Philip (Debbie) Poitra of Lacduflandeau, WI, Roderick (Roberta Davis) Poitra of Belcourt, Wanda (Joseph DeCoteau) Poitra of Belcourt, Yvonne Aiken of Belcourt, Yvette (Larry) Cree of Belcourt, and Dana A. DeCoteau of Arizona and two grandchildren whom she raised, Christopher and Jeffrey Poitra; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Rose was preceded in death by her parents, sons, David and Hubert, and her brothers and sisters, Elmer, Leo, Louis, Francis, Agnes, Mary, and Jeanette, granddaughters, Melissa Poitra and Cleo Poitra, and great granddaughter, Kayli LaFountain.

Casket Bearers are Jason Poitra, David Poitra Jr., Allen McCloud Jr., Phil Poitra, Richard LaFountain, and Wesley McCloud.  Honorary Bearers are all family and friends. Music by Ed Bennett.  Rosary led by Ella McLeod.  Eucharistic Gifts by Yvonne Aiken and Teresa Aiken.  Readers are Yvonne Aiken and Cadance Poitra.  Pall placed by the family.

A visitation will begin at 5:00 PM on Tuesday, May 31, 2022 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Belcourt, ND with a Rosary Service at 7:00 PM.  Funeral Mass will be Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at 10:00 AM in the church.  Burial will follow services in the church cemetery.  Father Michael Slovak, SOLT presiding.
