Ronald Disrud, age 79, of Rolla, ND, passed away on Tuesday, December 26, 2023 at St. Kateri Hospital, Rolla, ND.

Ronald Oral Disrud was born on June 7,1944 in Rolla, ND to Oral and Vera (Bisom) Disrud. He graduated from Rolla High School in 1962. He pursued his higher education at North Dakota State University obtaining a bachelor's degree in Agricultural Engineering. He was then drafted in the United States Army and attended basic training at Fort Lewis, WA. His graduating class in the army was the first class that wasn't deployed to Vietnam.  He spent his remaining time in the army at Fort Hood, TX. After his honorable discharge from the Army, he continued his education at South Dakota State University where he received his master's degree in Agricultural Engineering.

Ron then went to work for the South Dakota State Health Department in Pierre, SD.  This is where he met Trudy Knittel. When Ron's father Oral passed away in 1974, he returned to the family farm near Rolla.  Ron was united in marriage to Trudy Knittel on July 8,1975 on the family farm and together they shared four children, Angela, Erica, Aaron, and Brian.  Farming was a large part of Ron's life, and he passed his love for agriculture onto his family.  In addition to farming while living near Rolla, he held a few jobs including Rolla City Public Works Director, Rolla City Engineer and engineer at Arrow Tech, and Interstate Engineering. Ron was proud to be part of the Rolla community. He served on several boards within the community including the Rolla School Board and Rolla Coop Grain Elevator Board, and Park View Assisted Living and various other organizations.  Ron's sobriety in AA program played an important role in his life and he would sponsor others as needed.

He enjoyed flying in his younger years, farming, hunting, skiing, and cheering on the NDSU Bison. The family learned how to make lefse together when Vera was in Arizona for Christmas.  It took a few tries, but we became good at it and enjoyed carrying on the family tradition.  Ron had a sense of humor and could make anyone laugh in a tough situation.  He was a great storyteller and very optimistic.  Ron loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed.

Ron is survived by his wife, Trudy Disrud of Rolla; children, Angela (Brian) Hallett of Nashville, TN; Erica (Chris) Althoff of Jamestown, ND; Aaron (Ember) Disrud of Rolla; and Brian (Dena) Kittelson of Sioux Falls, SD; and seven grandchildren, Avedon Hallett, Brady and Ethan Althoff, Niklas and Isaak Disrud, Carter and Emme Kittelson; sister Carol Disrud of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico; nephews, Todd (Denise) Berendes of Huntsville, AL, and Brian (Amy) Berendes of Madison, WI; in-laws, Terry and Fran Berendes of Pierre, SD.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Oral and Vera Disrud, brother, James Disrud, stepfather, Alvin "Ted" Ball, stepfather-in-law, Hugo Janssen, brother-in-law, James Kormier, and in-laws, Theodore and Hattie Knittel.

In leu of flowers memorials may be given to Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Rolla, ND and Parkview Assisted Living, Rolla, ND or another organization of your choice.

Military Honors by the Fred C. Wagner American Legion Post 235 of Rolla and the Military Funeral Honor Guard of Grand Forks, ND.

A visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Thursday, January 4, 2024 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Rolla, ND with a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM.  Funeral Services will be Friday, January 5, 2024 at 11:00 AM in the church with Pastor Bonnie Weaver officiating.  Burial will be held at a later date.
