Rodney received an Associate of Arts in Business at the Turtle Mountain Community College. He enjoyed working on all the vehicles at his home shop and worked several years selling auto parts, and worked for over 20 years at Neameyer's Body shop in Rolla, ND.
Rodney loved people and was caring and kind. He loved spending time with his kids, grandkids, friends, and family. He had a big heart, especially when it came to children. Rodney was therapeutic foster parent for over 15 years, and was foster "dad" for several children. Rodney was quite the jokester with a quiet smile. He loved to get anyone going on any topic, sometimes never knew if he was serious or not. He loved riding his motorcycle, grilling all year long, cooking the best meals which included steaks & hot dogs. He had a sweet tooth for the saltiest popcorn & all the chocolate possible on top of his ice cream. Rodney was a fan of playing horseshoes & enjoyed watching the humming birds in the feeder.
Over the past few years he spent his time running his grocery store "Square Deal" with his wife Debbie. He loved when kids would come into the store, he would always give them a sucker. Rodney also enjoyed being the mayor of his hometown St. John, dedicating his time to helping his friends and neighbors.
Rodney is preceded in death by his parents Gerald & Oviala Pederson Phelps; paternal grandparents Samuel & Alice Phelps; maternal grandparents Peder & Louise Phelps; siblings Gerald, Roger & Earl Phelps; in-laws Leonard & Annabelle Ramsfield; brother in law Jim Ramsfield; niece Tabitha Phelps; and nephew Mark Phelps.
