Robert Michael
Monette
May 7, 1964 — Feb 4, 2026
Robert Michael Monette (May 7, 1964 – February 4, 2026)
Robert Monette, age 61, of Rolla, ND passed away on Wednesday, February 4, 2026 at his home.
Robert, "Rob/Robbie," was born in Rolla, ND on May 7, 1964, to John and Greta [Gailfus] Monette. Growing up on the family farm in Belcourt taught him responsibility, how to fix anything with bailing wire, and that giving up was not an option. Rob graduated high school from Belcourt, ND in 1982.
Rob had a deep commitment to education and personal growth. His academic achievements included a Bachelor of Business Administration with a minor in aviation and airport administration, a private pilot's license, and a Master of Business Administration, all from the University of North Dakota. He further advanced his professional expertise by earning a government contracting certification from Georgetown University.
Rob was a thoughtful mentor to many and always challenged others to inspire action and growth. This helped him advance to leadership roles throughout his career in Colorado and North Dakota. He was very proud of his roles at the University of North Dakota, Turtle Mountain Community College, Sky Dancer Casino, Uniband, Mandaree Enterprises, and most of all United Airlines.
Rob married his high school sweetheart, Sandra "Sandy" Monette, and together they shared a bond that remained a constant source of love and strength throughout his life. Rob was devoted to his three children and took immense pride in each of them. His love only grew deeper as a grandfather, and his grandchildren were truly the light of his life. He also shared a special bond with his dogs, who brought him constant comfort, loyalty, and happiness.
Rob's spirit of adventure led his family to Colorado Springs to enjoy the mountains and outdoors. He always loved airplanes and Colorado was the place to be with the Blue Angels and Thunderbirds always practicing nearby. This developed into a love for travel, often returning home with small gifts for his family or adding another coffee cup to his growing collection.
Rob had a rare gift for making others feel special. Family and friends alike felt at ease in his presence, often leaving his company feeling seen, valued, and uplifted. He carried a generous spirit and was always willing to lend a hand or help someone in need.
Rob was best known for his quick wit and sense of humor—if you were in his presence, laughter was never far away. One of the joys many fondly remember was his love of cookies; his cookie jar was always full, and he never forgot to share a piece with each of his dogs.
A planner by nature, Rob believed in being prepared and always having a plan. He valued routine, made a point to be early wherever he went, and approached life with determination and purpose. He was strong-willed and steadfast once he set his mind on something. A dedicated Catholic, Rob took pride in his faith and enjoyed serving as a parish member, particularly through proclaiming the readings. Close friends knew his favorite color was green—a fitting reflection of the steady, warm life he brought to those around him.
Rob is preceded in death by his parents, John and Greta [Gailfus] Monette and nephew, Chad James Monette. He is survived by his wife, Sandra "Sandy" Monette; children, Erin (Jason) Perronteau, Justin Monette, Ember (Frank) DeCouteau; his siblings, Vicki (Greg) Hauff, Julie (Richard) McCloud, Mark (Terri) Monette, Daryl (Deneen) Monette; his 11 grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
A visitation will begin at 5:00 PM on Monday, February 9, 2026 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, St. John, ND with a Rosary Service at 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, February 10, 2026 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, St. John, ND with a reception to follow. Father Richard Fineo presiding.
