Richard John "Jiggers" LaFromboise, age 78, of Belcourt, ND passed away on Sunday, March 2nd, 2025 at Quentin Burdick Memorial Hospital, Belcourt, ND.
Richard John "Jiggers" LaFromboise was born on March 26, 1946 in Belcourt, ND to Joe LaFromboise and Elise (Marion) Frank. He was raised in Belcourt and completed his education there as well. Jiggers furthered his education and obtained Juris Doctor Degree, working as a lawyer throughout his life. He enlisted in the United States Airforce in 1965 and received an honorable discharge in 1969, serving during the Vietnam War. Jiggers was united in marriage to Teresa Davis and together they had one daughter, Cessalie. They later divorced. In 1994 he married Linda DuBois and together they raised two daughters, Neysa and Jade. He loved his family dearly, his daughters, all of his grandchildren, especially his grandson, Jostin, who he helped raise from a child. Jiggers was Tribal Chairman, serving five terms (1982-1988, 1992-1994, 1998-2000), National Tribal Chairman, worked as a lawyer, and most recently as a juvenile Judge. His deep knowledge and his dedication to all will be honored for years to come. Jiggers will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed.
Jiggers is survived by his daughters, Cessalie (Nicholas) Sternhagen and their daughters, Anastasia and Penelope of Yankton, SD, Neysa (Preston) Gladue and their children, Cimmeron, Jostin, Thane, Alivia, and Aiven of Dunseith, and Jade Trottier and her children, Ave, Isreal, Emille, Cyril, Ami, and Ezra, all of Dunseith; one great grandchild, Ezekeil Gladue; sisters, Madonna Seelhammer of Frankfort, KY; sister-in-law's, Roxie LaFromboise of Belcourt and Maggie Larkin LaFromboise of Rolla; and many nieces and nephews.
Jiggers was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, Geraldine (John) Marcavage, Joseph LaFromboise, Maria Overbay, and Gerald (Lois) LaFromboise, brother-in-law, Wayne Seelhammer, and adoptive brother, Charlie Merrick.
Casket Bearers are Chugger Davis, Clarence Davis, Jackson Davis, Jocko Frank, Cimmeron Gladue, Jostin Gladue, Preston Gladue, Thane Gladue, Robert Hulett, John Marcavage, and Wayne Seelhammer. Honorary Bearers are all Grandchildren, Tribal Chairmen and Councilmen past and present, Malcolm Berucci Sr., Clifford Wolfe Jr., and Austin Gillette. Rosary led by Gloria Davis, Julianne Senn, Geraldine Poitra, and Marie Vormestrand. Altar Servers are Jair Peltier and Paul Peltier. Eulogy by Tribal Chairman Jamie Azure and Gloria Davis. Military Honors provided by the Rolette County VFW and the Military Airforce Honor Guard of Minot, ND. Readers are John Marcavage and Dayna Sanders. Laying of the pall by all grandchildren. Eucharistic Gifts by Aubree Fox and Alivia Gladue. Music by Chad Marcellais, Joe Parisien, Monica Nadeau, Gloria Davis, Jair Peltier, Mary Peltier, and Richard Turcotte.
A visitation will begin at 6:00 PM on Sunday, March 9, 2025 at St. Ann's Catholic Church, Belcourt, ND with a Rosary Service at 7:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, March 10, 2025 at St. Ann's Catholic Church, Belcourt, ND. Celebrant, Father Jeff Eppler. A meal will follow funeral services at the Skydancer Casino, Belcourt, ND, all are welcome to attend. Burial will take place in St. Ann's Catholic Cemetery, Belcourt, ND in the spring.
