Richard Frederick, age 77, of Dunseith, ND passed away on October 2, 2023 at Trinity Hospital, Minot, ND.

Richard Gene "Tonto" Frederick was born on May 2, 1946 in Belcourt, ND to George and Lillian (Longie) Frederick.  He was raised in Belcourt and completed his education there as well.  He furthered his education in Reno, Nevada.  Richard was united in marriage to Wanda Wilkie on June 8, 1958 at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Belcourt. Together they raised three children, Stacy, Richanda, and Richard.  Tonto worked for the Turtle Mountain Tribe as a judge for many years, which he loved.  He enjoyed visiting with others on the phone, always excited about what was happening in the community. Tonto also liked playing bingo and being up to date on the news.  He will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by his family members and many friends.

Tonto is survived by is loving wife, Wanda Frederick of Dunseith; children, Stacy Frederick of Mandan, Richanda Frederick of Moorhead, MN, and Richard (Gayle) Frederick of Bismarck; ten grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; siblings, Joe Frederick and Dean Frederick, both of Belcourt; and nieces and nephews.

Tonto was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Martha Frederick and RuthAnn Frederick, and brother, David Frederick.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, October 16, 2023 at 10:00 AM at St. Ann's Catholic Church, Belcourt, ND with a visitation beginning at 8:00 AM and Rosary Service at 9:00 AM prior to the funeral mass.  Father Tony Hession presiding.  Burial will follow services in St. Ann's Catholic Cemetery, Belcourt, ND.
