Raymond Martell, age 72, of Belcourt, ND passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Monday, September 23, 2019 at Trinity Hospital, Minot, ND.

Raymond L. Martell was born on May 8, 1947 in Belcourt, ND to George A. and Mary (Pays) Martell. He was raised in Belcourt and completed his education there as well. Raymond was united in marriage to Elma Vallie on January 1, 1975 in Wolfpoint, MT. He was the proud father of a daughter, Angel, and a step-daughter, Becky. Raymond worked a self-employed painter for many years. He was highly skilled and meticulous in painting the inside and outside of homes and businesses resulting in many happy customers who utilized his services repeatedly over the years. He enjoyed singing country music and was a talented musician who played guitar, fiddle, and harmonica. Raymond also enjoyed restoring old classic cars and pickups. He would take his time repairing the body of the vehicle, painting it, making sure the vehicle was in good running condition, and that the motor was painted and looking good. He also restored the interior of the vehicles to their original condition. Raymond enjoyed gardening in the summer as well. He usually had two large gardens and shared his harvest with family and friends. He enjoyed fishing, boating, swimming, and water skiing in his younger days. He will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by his family members and friends.

Raymond is survived by his wife, Elma Martell of Belcourt; daughter, Angel Martell of Belcourt; step-daughter, Becky Poitra of Aberdeen, SD; ten grandchildren, Destiney, Summer, Alexis, and Ashton Martell, Cassandra and Desirae Poitra, Austin Wilkie, Jayden, Jeffrey, and Neveah Beston; five great grandchildren, Kruze, Emree, Blakelee, Brylee, and Alena; and his siblings, Gilbert Martell, Frank Martell, Robert Martell, Theresa Patnaude, Carol Belgarge, Stella Renault, Betty Marcellais, and Sandra Martell.

He was preceded in death by his parents, step-son, Jeffrey Poitra, brothers, William Martell, Clifford Martell, George Martell Jr. and Patrick Martell, and sister, Rosie Sutton.

Casket Bearers are Raymond Belgarde, Dean Peltier, Wayne Martell, Blaine Martell, Clifford Martell, and Scott Poitra. Honorary Bearers are all nephews and grandsons. Eucharistic Gifts by Destiney Martell and Terry LaVallie. Reader is Richard Marcellais. Rosary led by Mabel DeCoteau and Vicky Ann Parisien.

A Funeral Mass will take place on Thursday, September 26, 2019 at 2:00 PM at St. Ann's Catholic Church, Belcourt, ND with a visitation from Noon-2:00 PM. Father Tony Hession presiding. Burial will follow in St. Ann's Catholic Cemetery, Belcourt, ND. A meal will follow burial services at the Turtle Mountain Worship Center, Belcourt, ND.
