Obituary

Raymond Grandbois, age 80, of Aberdeen, SD, formerly of Belcourt, ND, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 20, 2024 at his home.

Raymond Grandbois was born on August 9, 1944 in Belcourt, ND to Sarah "Sadie" Grandbois.  He was raised in Belcourt and completed his high school education there as well.  He furthered his education at University of North Dakota in Grand Forks and then attended graduate school at University of California, Berkeley obtaining his Master's degree in public health administration.  Raymond was the proud father of three children, Shane, Nicole, and Richard.  He lived a life full of love for his family including his companion of many years, Gayle and her children, Amy, Kesha, JaNae, and Tyson. Raymond worked in hospital administration for many years and was instrumental in opening the Milwaukee Indian Health Clinic, he served as the executive director of the Milwaukee Indian Health Board, and then worked at Indian Health Service in Belcourt for many years until retiring.  He had a wonderful sense of humor, of which he passed to his family and all those he came in contact with.  Raymond enjoyed the outdoors, boating, sailing, snow skiing, mountain biking, and was always ready for his next adventure.  He often went camping, traveling, dancing, and liked listening to live music and attending concerts. Raymond was a gourmet cook and enjoyed eating and spending time with his family members, always ready to entertain at a moments notice.  Being active was a lifestyle that brought much joy to Raymond's life and satisfied his adventurous spirit.  He was always "looking for adventure and new experiences." Raymond was an avid reader, often sharing his knowledge of health benefits with his family members and friends.  He was dearly loved by his companion, Gayle, his children, step-children, grandchildren, siblings, and friends. Raymond will forever be remembered with a smile and a wonderful memory to go with it.

Raymond is survived by his companion, Gayle Peltier of Aberdeen, SD; children, Shane (Laura) Grandbois of Milwaukee, WI and Nicole (Bruce) Grandbois-Miller of Loveland, CO; step-children, Amy (Lenny) DeCoteau of Belcourt, Kesha (Joe) Peltier of Aberdeen, SD, JaNae (Dylan) Peltier of Belcourt, and Tyson (Bobbie) Peltier of Aberdeen, SD; grandchildren, Matthew Miller, Jacob Miller, Elise Grandbois, Giselle Grandbois, Damian, Daniel, Dax, Dane, and Davis Kinney, Miliani LaVallie, Levante Yanez, Jayah Keplin, Sparrow One Star, Tanner Peltier, and Michael Peltier; siblings, Geraldine (Carris) LaRocque of Rolette, Jolean (Ron) Morin of Belcourt, Suzie (Jim) Hill of Arthur, Perry "PJ" (Karen) Peltier of Steele, and Patsy (Dave) Raum of Jackson Hole, WY; and many nieces and nephews.
