Randy S. Poitra, age 66, of Dunseith, ND passed away on Sunday, December 21, 2025, at Quentin Burdick Memorial Hospital, Belcourt, ND.

Randy Sylvester Poitra was born June 17, 1959, in Belcourt, ND to Roy "Savage" and Virginia (Laverdure) Poitra.  He attended his education at boarding schools in his younger years.  Randy was united in marriage to Shirley Hoeger on February 5, 1980, in Grand Forks, ND.  Together they raised three children, Deanna "Randylina", Randy "JR", and Brittney "Britt the Brat".  Randy was known as "Smilez" by many of his friends. Randy owned and operated his own concrete company "R & R Construction" in his younger years.  He worked as a heavy equipment operator for many years and especially enjoyed operating a blade and transporting beets during the season.  He enjoyed time outdoors fishing, cutting wood, and tinkering, especially on chain saws, and took great pride in his house and his yard. Randy liked playing guitar, watching westerns - especially Gunsmoke, playing Pogo on the computer, going to the casino and playing bingo.  He enjoyed a good steak, was known for his quick wit and his uncanny ability to bring a smile to those who he encountered and loved. Randy loved his family dearly. He was especially proud of all his children and will be forever missed by them, as well as many friends.

Randy is survived by his loving wife, Shirley Poitra of Dunseith; children, Deanna (Benjamin) Gutierrez of Layton, UT, Randy Poitra Jr. of Dunseith, and Brittney Poitra of Dunseith; four grandchildren, Aleksis (Alex) Fabian, Kaleb Gutierrez, Tristan Poitra, and Izabelle Poitra; siblings, Sandy (Wade) Poitra, Troy Poitra, Terry (Tammy) Poitra, Roxanne (Robert) Fairbanks, Pam (Thad) Banley, Ramona "Dallas" Love, Audrey (George) Pister, and Marlys Belgarde; and many nieces and nephews.

Randy was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Alan "Snowball" Poitra, Dean Poitra, and Mark "Clarkie" Poitra, and grandson, Masen Gutierrez.

Casket Bearers are Brittney Poitra, Ben Gutierrez, Jerard "Jerry" Hoeger, Troy Poitra, Raymond LeCompte and Matthew Miller.  Honorary casket bearers are all family and friends. Readers are Nikki Hoeger, Sandy Poitra, and Valerie Malaterre.  Eucharistic Gifts by Aleksis Fabian and Kaleb Gutierrez.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, December 26, 2025, at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, Dunseith, ND with visitation beginning at 8:00 AM, Rosary Service at 9:00 AM, followed by funeral mass at 10:00 AM.  Burial will take place at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Dunseith, ND in the spring of 2026.
