Phyllis Gourneau, age 61, of Belcourt, ND passed away on Thursday, August 15, 2024 at Sanford Hospital, Fargo, ND.

Phyllis Ann Gourneau was born on May 11, 1963 in Belcourt, ND to Albert and Theresa (Schroeder) Azure.  She was raised in St. John and completed her school through Belcourt Schools.  Phyllis furthered her education at St. Mary's College in Bismarck, obtaining a bachelor degree in business administration.  She was united in marriage to Clark Gourneau on September 20, 1986 at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Belcourt.  Together they raised two daughters, Maria and Katie.  Phyllis worked for Indian Health Services for the past nine years as a contract specialist.  She loved time spent with her family members, her husband, children, and especially her grandson, Ronin.  Phyllis enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and hunting, as well as planting her flowers.  She was a wonderful cook, bread, her "bangs," and canning were her specialties.  Phyllis will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by her family members and many friends.

Phyllis is survived by her husband, Clark Gourneau of Belcourt; daughters, Maria (Lexi Jones) Gourneau of Belcourt and Katie (Jesus Hernandez) Gourneau of Belcourt; grandson, Ronin Hernandez of Belcourt; father, Albert Azure of St. John; siblings, Robert (Sandy) Azure of St. John, Betty (John Baker) Hunt of St. John, Dave (Carrie) Azure of St. John, Kenneth (Shelly) Azure of Belcourt, Carol (Gary) Hunt of Dunseith, and Lorraine (Heath) Gourneau of St. John; and many nieces and nephews.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her mother, Theresa Azure.

Casket Bearers are Warren Gourneau Jr., Ryan Gourneau Sr., Cody Hunt, Gary Hunt Jr., Randall (Bud) Gourneau Jr., and Dominique Gourneau.  Honorary Bearers are Michella Hunt and Jacqueline Henry.  Eucharistic Gifts by Megan and Ryan Gailfus.  Music by Leonard Keplin, David Blake Azure, Jerry Parisien, and Bradley Gourneau.  Readers are Denise Keplin – wake and Jennilee Blue and Jessica Hunt – funeral. Rosary led by Debbie Marion and Colleen Davis. Eulogy by Bradley Gourneau. Pall placed by Robert Azure, Betty Hunt, Dave Azure, Kenneth Azure, Carol Hunt, and Lori Gourneau.

A visitation will begin at 5:00 PM on Wednesday, August 21, 2024 at St. Ann's Catholic Church, Belcourt, ND with a Rosary Service at 7:00 PM with Father David Snow presiding.   A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, August 22, 2024 at St. Ann's Catholic Church, Belcourt, ND with Father Richard Fineo presiding.  Burial will follow in St. Ann's Catholic Cemetery, Belcourt, ND.
