Peter Poitra, age 81, of Belcourt, ND passed away on Wednesday, September 23, 2020 at the Rolette Community Care Center, Rolette, ND.

Peter J. Poitra was born on October 9, 1938 to Michael and Josephine (Davis) Poitra in Belcourt, ND.  He was raised in Belcourt and completed his education there as well.  Peter was married to Donna Azure and together they had five children, Lyle, Merle, Rhonda, Lorrie, and Mitchell, they later divorced.  He then had two more children, Bonita and Jackie.  Peter obtained a welding certificate by furthering his education in California.  He worked various jobs throughout the years in California, Chicago, Williston, Belcourt and in the Rolette County area.  Peter enjoyed the outdoors fishing and hunting and watching the Minnesota Vikings and keeping up on current politics.  He has lived in the Belcourt area for the past 20 years.  Peter will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by his family members and many friends.

Peter is survived by his children, Lyle Poitra of Belcourt, Rhonda (Randy) Azure of Dunseith, Lorrie (Mike) Patnaude of Belcourt, Mitchell (Angel) Poitra of Belcourt, Bonita (Mike) Malaterre of Belcourt, and Jackie (Ronnie Thomas) LaFountain of Belcourt; 21 grandchildren; many great grandchildren; and his siblings, Ina Allery, Arnold "Sunny" Poitra, Raymond Poitra, Esther Eller, Mabel "BB" Delorme, Mary Ann Morin, Eugene Poitra, Linda Morin, and Geraldine Larson.

Peter was preceded in death by his parents, son, Merle, sisters, Virginia Poitra and Vita Azure, brothers, Anthony Poitra and Dale Poitra, and grandson, Jon Patnaude.

Casket Bearers are Lindsey Larson, Carl Eller, Benjamin Morin, Jesse Azure, Brett Poitra, Jade Malaterre, Chris LaFountain, Curtis Poitra, and Danny Davis.  Honorary Bearers are all family and friends. Eucharistic gifts by Linda Morin and Sandy Morin.  Reader is Jennifer Poitra.  Rosary led by Jackie Delorme.  Music by Richard Turcotte and C. Joe Parisien.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, September 28, 2020 at 10:00 AM in St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Belcourt, ND with a Rosary Service at 9:30 AM.  Visitation will begin at 8:00 a.m. in the church.  Burial will follow the funeral mass in St. Anthony's Catholic Cemetery, Belcourt, ND.
