Monte Haas, age 66, of Devils Lake, ND passed away on Tuesday, June 23, 2026 near White Owl, South Dakota.

Monte Ray Haas was born on March 25, 1960 in Rolla, ND to Robert "Bob" and Irene (James) Haas.  He attended grade school and high school in St. John, ND.  Monte met his wife, Sharon Mygland in 1980 and were married in Rugby, ND on May 17, 1991.  Together they raised two children, Holly and Michael. Later in life, Monte and his grandson were baptized in the creek near their Montana home.

Monte worked in the oil fields, farming, and most recently for Anderson Western, Inc. in Bismarck, ND, which became his second family when he was away from home.  Monte lived to hunt and fish in his free time.  He raced cars in his early years and enjoyed snowmobiling with "the boys" the last few years.  Monte also went on numerous elk hunting trips with "the boys" making stories that will last a lifetime.  He usually had his son or his daughter with him on his outdoor adventures.  If you knew Monte, you would understand why Holly became a taxidermist.  Monte had several nieces and nephews that he considered like his own children.  He loved each and every one of them, taking them under his wing to teach and protect them.  A man with the biggest heart who expected nothing in return.  Monte will be lovingly remembered and forever missed.

Monte is survived by his wife, Sharon Haas of Devils Lake; children, Holly Haas and Michael Haas, both of Devils Lake; grandsons, Braden Kongslie of Minot and Jason Haas of Devils Lake; brothers, Eldon (Gloria) Haas of St. John and Rick (Judy) Haas of St. John; sisters-in-law, Sheila (Tim) Paul of Rugby, Cheryl (Harlen) Feekes, of Modesto, CA, Sandy (Chuck) Richard of Mandan, and Charlene Mygland of Rugby; and several nieces and nephews.

Monte was preceded in death by his father, Robert "Bob" (Amelia) Haas, mother, Irene Haas, brothers, Dale and David Haas, and four nephews and nieces.

Casket Bearers are Fred Gustafson, Nathan Gustafson, Frank Richard, Brad Jobe, Gary "Sam" Haas, and Robbie Haas.  Music by Kevy Jeanotte, Bennett Jeanotte, and Dolly Belgarde.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, June 30, 2026 at St. John Community Center Gymnasium, St. John, ND with visitation beginning at 8:00 AM. Burial will follow funeral services at Mill Lake Cemetery, St. John, ND. Dave Schnackenberg officiating.  A meal will follow funeral services in the gymnasium; all are welcome to attend and celebrate the life of Monte.
