Obituary

Monte Bryant, age 85, of St. John, ND passed away on Monday, February 21, 2022 at St. Kateri Hospital, Rolla, ND.

Monte "Skip" Bryant was born on January 21, 1937 in St. John, ND to Charles III and Jessie (Phelps) Bryant.  He was raised in St. John and completed his education there as well.  Monte enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1954 and received an honorable discharge in 1957.  After his discharge from the military, he furthered his education at forestry school for one year.  Monte was united in marriage to Joan Trottier on September 7, 1978 and was the father of two daughters, Lisa and Connie. Following forestry school, he moved to Greenland for a time and then came home in the late 70's, working in construction as a heavy equipment operator, while farming and working with cattle.  Monte moved out to Reno in 1982 and later moved back to North Dakota in 2000, continuing his work and love for the farm with his family.  He enjoyed watching westerns, reading Louis L'Amour books, cheering on the local "Woodchucks" as they played basketball and other sports, and was an avid history buff, often watching the History Channel.  Monte will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by his family members and many friends.

Monte is survived by his daughters, Lisa (Doug) Hemphill of Crestview, FL and Connie James of Phoenix, AZ; three grandchildren, special acknowledged grandchildren, Brenden and Brooklyn Arvidson; seven great grandchildren; sister, Patsy McCloud of St. John; special friend, Craig Thibert; and many nieces and nephews.

Monte was preceded in death by his parents, Charles III and Jessie Bryant, wife, Joan Bryant, brothers, Charles, Donald, and Robert, sister, Mary, and special friend, Bernice Thibert.
