Obituary

Melvin Henry, age 59, of Belcourt, ND passed away on Friday, August 14, 2020 at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, ND.

Melvin Joseph Henry was born on September 6, 1960 in Belcourt, ND to John and Bernice (Lecompte) Henry.  He was raised in Dunseith and completed his education in Belcourt.  Melvin enlisted in the United States Army and received an honorable discharge.  He was united in marriage to Rose Mary Azure on August 8, 2002.  He was the proud father of four children, Candace, Sarah, Christina, and Lacey.  Melvin worked for Turtle Mountain Housing Authority for over 20 years.  He enjoyed working on and restoring old vehicles and was especially proud of his restored 59' Cadillac.  Melvin had a wonderful sense of humor, always joking and teasing, and was a Momma's Boy.  He lived for and deeply loved his children and especially his grandchildren.  Melvin will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed.

Melvin is survived by his wife, Rose Mary Azure of Dunseith; daughters, Candace (Chris Phelps) Azure of Belcourt, Sarah (Jimmy Counts) Azure of Dunseith, Christina (Alan Martin) Azure of Belcourt, and Lacey (Mark Laducer) Henry of Belcourt; twelve grandchildren, Melvin "Paco", Connor, Megan, Cinnamon, Aria, Alayna, Amaya, Alyza, Andrea, Henry, Dekotah, and Acaysha; a great grandchild on the way; siblings, Joyce Camrud, James (Shirley) Henry, Betty Summers, Vivian Keplin, John Henry Jr., Ted (Maryann) Henry, Jay (Patty) Henry, Doraldine Henry, Brenda Henry, and Mark Henry; and many nieces and nephews.

Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, John and Bernice Henry, sister, Loretta Vivier, brother, Brian Henry, and grandmother, Eliza Ironbear-Henry.

Casket Bearers are Connor Azure, Melvin "Paco" Azure, Joey "JJ" Vivier, Josh Henry, Ernie Henry, and Brian "Buck" Henry.  Honorary Bearers are all brothers, grandsons, and friends.  Military Honors by the Lilley-Dionne American Legion of Belcourt and the Military Funeral Honor Guard of Grand Forks, ND.

A visitation will begin at 5:00 PM on Tuesday, August 18, 2020 at Eagle Heart Cultural Center, Log Cabin, Dunseith, ND. A Funeral Service will be Wednesday, August 19, 2020 at 10:00 AM at the Log Cabin, Dunseith, ND.  Burial will take place at a later date.
