Maynard Short Sr., age 64, of Belcourt, ND passed away on Thursday, May 30, 2019 at his home.

Maynard Joseph Short Sr. was born on September 25, 1954 in Belcourt, ND to Alfred F. and Cecelia (Bruce) Short. He was raised in Belcourt and completed his elementary education there as well. Maynard was united in marriage to Deborah Poitra and together they had two daughters, Christina and Bobbi Jo, they later divorced. He then married Debra Caldwell and together they had Jolynn, Jolean, and Maynard Jr. They later divorced. Maynard worked in construction as a pipe layer throughout North Dakota and many other states. He enjoyed horses, working on vehicles, and cooking. Maynard had a wonderful sense of humor and his teasing will not be forgotten. He loved to be around his grandchildren and his family members and friends. Maynard will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed.

Maynard is survived by his children, Christina (Brian) Poitra of Belcourt, Vanessa LaFountain of Belcourt, Jolynn (Larry) Hughes of Fargo, and Jolean Short of Fargo; fifteen grandchildren; three great grandchildren; step-children, Stormy Baker of Fargo and Corey Baker of Devils Lake; step-grandchildren; and his siblings, Shirley (Michael) LaVallie of Belcourt, Edward (Vickie) Short of Dunseith, John (Carol) Short of Belcourt, Irene Vann of Belcourt, and Gail (Timmy) Morin of Belcourt.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Maynard Short Jr., daughter, Bobbi Jo Smith, grandson, Clint Smith Jr., sisters, Mary Ann LaVallie and Linda Demery, and brother, Alfred Short.

A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, June 6, 2019 at 10:00 AM at St. Ann's Catholic Church, Belcourt, ND with Fr. Dennis Mary Dugan, SOLT presiding. Burial will follow in St. Ann's Catholic Cemetery, Belcourt, ND.
