Matthew Gourneau, age 32, of St. John, ND passed away Thursday, January 19, 2023, at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, ND.

Matthew Joseph "Matt" Gourneau was born on March 1, 1990, in Rolla, ND to Joe Allery and Debbie Gourneau. He was raised in Fargo and later moved to Rolla, ND, graduating from Rolla High School in 2009. Matt served as a Volunteer Firefighter for seven years with the Rolla Fire Department. He worked many different jobs, from construction to driving truck, and also as a farm hand. Most recently, Matt was working at N8's in St. John.  Matt enjoyed playing the guitar and riding his motorcycle.   He also enjoyed the outdoors, you could find him fishing, hunting, etc.  He loved to socialize with friends, both new and old.  Matt will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed.

Matthew is survived by his mother, Debbie Gourneau; uncles, Clarence Gourneau, Duane Gourneau, Albert Gourneau, and Eugene Allery; and aunts, Lila Thomas, Debbie Poitra, Bernie Belgarde, Ramona Allery, and Cheryl Allery.

Matthew was preceded in death by his father, Joe Allery, adoptive mother, Sharon Gourneau, grandparents, Nicholas and Rosemarie Allery, Lawrence and Marcelline Gourneau, aunts, Terri Stenerson, and Rita LaFrombois, and uncles, Arthur Gourneau, James Allery, David Allery, Kenny Allery, and Bruce Allery.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Monday, January 30, 2023, at 10:00 AM at St. Ann's Catholic Church, Belcourt, ND with a visitation beginning at 8:00 AM and Rosary Service at 9:00 AM prior to the memorial mass.  Burial will be in St. Ann's Catholic Cemetery, Belcourt, ND in the spring.  Father Dave Brokke presiding. No meal to follow.
