Obituary

Mary Louise Slater, age 84, of Belcourt, ND passed away on Sunday, December 25, 2022 at Quentin Burdick Memorial Health Care Facility, Belcourt, ND.

Mary Louise Slater was born on December 31, 1937 at home near Belcourt, ND to Charles and Cecelia (McCloud) Vivier.  She was raised in Belcourt and completed her education there as well.  Mary Louise was united in marriage to Lawrence "Peteson" Slater on January 6, 1958.  Together they had eight children, Ivan, Yvonne, Clayton, Brian, Janet, Pam, Wayne, and John, while traveling the United States and living in different locations.  They eventually settled in Belcourt, ND and raised their family.  Mary Louise was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and homemaker for many years.  She kept track of her family and grandchildren, always lending advise and love where it was needed.  Mary Louise enjoyed cooking and cleaning and especially cutting her lawn.  She will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed.

Mary Louise is survived by her children, Ivan Slater, Yvonne Slater, Clayton (Joan Malaterre) Slater, Brian Slater, Janet Slater, Pam Slater, Wayne (Judy Thomas) Slater, and John Slater, all of Belcourt; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Mary Louise was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Cecelia Vivier, sisters, Rita LaFloe, Lucille Cain, and Leona Slater, and brothers, Pat Vivier, Fred Vivier, Francis Vivier, Leo Vivier, and Archie Vivier.

Casket Bearers are Lucas Wanna, Charles Slater, Jayton Slater, Cirrus Slater, Michael Slater, and Wayne Slater Jr.  Honorary Bearers are all family and friends.  Eucharistic Gifts by LouAnn Slater, Brenda Slater, and Jodi Hajicek.  Reader is Brenda Slater.  Music by Richard Turcotte and Layton Vondal.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, December 30, 2022 at 1:00 PM at St. Ann's Catholic Church, Belcourt, ND with a visitation beginning at 11:00 AM and Rosary Service at Noon prior to the funeral mass.  Father Tony Hession presiding. Burial will be in St. Ann's Catholic Cemetery, Belcourt, ND in the spring.
