Mark Thompson, age 70, of Devil Lake, Rolette, and Deland, Florida, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday, September 14, 2021 at his home in Devils Lake, North Dakota.

Mark Edwin Thompson was born on June 5, 1951 in Rugby, ND to Bennie and Doris (Haagenson) Thompson.  He grew up in Rolette, North Dakota and graduated from Rolette High School in 1969.  Mark then attended Minot State College and pursued a degree in Math and Physical Education.  After college, his passion for people and relationships found him taking on a variety of positions in the sales and services industry.  During this time, he also became a prolific golfer winning numerous tournaments around North Dakota.  On October 22, 1983 he married the love of his life, Lynn Erickson, in Rolette, North Dakota.  In 1986 Mark was offered a position with Rogers Benefit Group.  Accepting the challenge, Mark and Lynn relocated to Central Florida.  In 1991, Mark and Lynn had their only child, Cal.  Mark continued to serve as Regional Manager at Rogers Benefit Group until his retirement in April of 2021.  Mark deeply cared for his employees and considered them family.  Together they were recognized as the number one office in the nation.  Though living in Florida for 35 years, Mark's heart never left North Dakota.  Each summer Mark and his family would return "home", in addition to his frequent visits throughout the year.

He was known to many as an incredibly generous and giving man who often put others first.  He loved his family and friends, providing advice and help whenever they were in need.  Mark was passionate about the outdoors which included duck and geese hunting, fishing, playing golf, sports and his cars.  He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his family members and many friends.

Mark is survived by his wife, Lynn Thompson of Deland, Florida; son, Cal Thompson of Deland, Florida; and sisters, Kim (Carl) Anfinson of Clancy, Montana and Kris (Anthony) DeAngelis of Minnetonka, Minnesota; brother, Chad (Dawn) Thompson of Surrey, North Dakota; stepmother, Joan Thompson of Minot, North Dakota; and sister-in-law, Loree Lemieux of Deland, Florida.  He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, Chelsi, Adam, Aubrey, Brianna, and Quin.

Mark was preceded in death by his parents, Bennie Thompson and Doris Thompson and his uncle, Stan Haagenson.

Memorial Services will be held at Ebenezer Lutheran Brethren Church in Rolette, North Dakota on Friday, October 1, 2021 at 1:00 PM followed with a catered reception at the Rolette Country Club.
