Mark Thomas, age 60, of Rolette, ND passed away on Wednesday, May 10, 2023 at Sanford Hospital, Fargo, ND.

Mark Edmund Thomas was born February 4, 1963 and passed away on May 10, 2023.

Mark grew up on a family farm north of Rolette.  It was a carefree life and a lot of space to explore. There was always an older brother to tag along with.  If a car left the yard, Mark was going to be in it or he was not a happy guy.  Then, there was following dad to the barn to do chores.  Cows, pigs, but Mark liked seeing the old horse best.

Hitting junior and senior high, Mark excelled in sports and got his own car.  Those were memorable times for his jersey…Comet 22.  Graduating high school in 1980, Mark made his way to college in Devils Lake followed by UND in Grand Forks.  Then, Mark found his way to the DC area followed by California. Not long after, Mark was finding his life in Colorado.  He bought a truck and started his one-man moving business.  Mark never married, but he has two lovely daughters, whom he cherished and talked of often, especially with his own mom.  Stories of skiing in Aspen and doing fun things.

Many years later, Mark started making his way back to the farm in a round about way.  First, he lived in Fargo for a couple of years.  Then he got into a life changing injury in western ND.  After a couple of surgeries, he started getting used to finding little outside jobs to keep himself busy.  Can you believe Mark started driving his old truck around and cleaning up the ditches?  Then he noticed the tree lines needed cleaning, so he got permission from the landowners to thin out and take away the downed trees he cut, selling firewood.  He kept busy and loved the outdoors.

Mark is the proud, youngest son to late parents, Rosalie and Edmund Thomas, little brother to Lester (Nanci), Leslie, Larry, Lonnie, Darrell, and Carol (Feyber) Hebron; dad to Natasha Knight-Thomas (fiancé, Mike) of Colorado and half-sister, Serena Brooks-Thomas of Colorado; grandpa to Landon; uncle to many nieces and nephews, cousins, and friend to many more.  Mark also loved dogs and he has had a pet since he was a little boy.

Mark is preceded in death by his parents, niece, Jenifer Hebron, oldest brother, Ricky Thomas, and grandparents, Clement and Mary (Poitra) Thomas and Fred E. and Delia (LaFountain) Azure.

A Rosary/Wake service will be held on June 8, 2023 at 7:00 PM at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Belcourt, ND. A Funeral Mass will be held on June 9, 2023 at 10:00 AM at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Belcourt, ND with a graveside service at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Rolette, ND following the funeral mass.  Everyone is welcome back to St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Belcourt, ND for a meal and sharing of memories.  Rest in Peace and God Speed!
