Lynn Davis, age 78, of Belcourt, ND passed away on Sunday, March 14, 2021 at Trinity Hospital, Belcourt, ND.

Lynn Louis Davis was born in Belcourt, ND on January 11, 1943 to Bill and Louise (Patnaude) Davis. He was the oldest of five children. He was baptized at St. Ann's Church. He attended St. Ann's Mission School and the Wahpeton Indian School in elementary school. He attended Marty Indian School for a short time and graduated from Belcourt High School in 1962. He received a certificate in business from Interstate Business College. He received his Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from the University of North Dakota and his Master's Degree in Business Administration from the University of South Dakota.

Lynn married Carol Ann Monette on June 6, 1964. They made their first home in Fort Yates and that is where they met their lifelong friend, Marie Claymore. They often joked that they honeymooned in Fort Yates. They didn't have any children when they got there and when they left 6 years later they had four….Frank L, Jaclynn, Sherri and Joel. While at Fort Yates, Lynn worked for the Indian Health Service in Property and Supply. When they moved back to Belcourt, Lynn enrolled in college and two more children were born….Danny and Cleo. When Lynn completed college, he went to work for the TM Band of Chippewa as a Tribal Planner. He often talked about how he enjoyed working with Jim Henry who was Chairman. They became a good team and during the time they worked together, they were able to obtain funding for the TM Mall and the TM Manufacturing. His next career move brought him back to the Indian Health Service where he served as the Hospital Administrator for about 25 years. He retired in 2001. Some will remember his as an active member of the Belcourt School Board where he served for 15 years.

Lynn was a spiritual person. He practiced his Catholic faith and served the church as a minister of communion and was a Board Member of Catholic Charities of North Dakota for many years. He was fun to visit. He lived with his great grandmother, Cleophile Delorme, when he was growing up. He retold stories she shared and talked about the traditions she practiced. He often remarked about the respect the relatives showed her. The New Years celebrations impressed him a lot. His grandma greeted all visitors with a drink of alcohol and a song before she served them bullets and bangs. He told some good stories about high school sports. At a football game at Revinia, SD, he intercepted a pass and was running down the sidelines when he felt someone running along side of him. He glanced over and it was Father George (who was here in Belcourt for many years) and he was yelling, "Run, Lynn!" all the way to the end zone and he grabbed Lynn and lifted him into the air when he made a touch down!

Lynn loved to travel.  In 1976 he drove to California with Carol and their children.  He stopped and toured visitor sites along the way and they took many pictures. In 1990 he and family members went the other way to Florida. He also traveled to all 50 states, Canada, and Mexico.  He often shared stories about all of his trips with his family and friends.

Lynn will be missed by his wife, Carol and their children Jackie (Darrell) Wallette of West Fargo; Sherri (Darrell) Trottier of Belcourt; Danny (Courtney) Davis of Aberdeen; Joel Davis and Cleo Davis of Belcourt; Toni Jeanotte-Lodge; and his 23 grandchildren especially Trevor and Tyler who lived with him; Brother, Kenny (Rosie) Davis of Minneapolis; In-laws: Bill and Charlotte Monette; Vernon and Karen Monette; Janice and Allen Schlenvogt; Tessie and Ronnie Poitra; Iris Parisien; Terry and Norma Poitra; Ellie Coonsis, and his step-sister Susan Fox Beversleus.

He was preceded in death by his son Frank L; parents; brothers Allen and James and sister Norma Jean; In-laws Frank and Emma Monette; brothers-in-law Bob Monette, Brian Parisien, Lyle Parisien; Nephews Willie Davis, Emery Parisien, and Michael Lynn Parisien; step-brother Thomas Fox, and God Child, Tonz Davis.

Pall Bearers are Darrell Trottier, Chuck Gladue, Coy Garrison, Clarence Davis, Ronnie Poitra, Darry Davis, Riel Wallette, and Chad Parisien.  Music by Chad Marcellais.  Lectors are Norma Poitra and Annette Mennem.  Gift Bearers are Grandchildren.  Honorary Bearers are Erich Longie, Francis Boyer, Larry Dauphinais, Tony Davis, Howard Frederick, Fred Baker, Francis Davis, Grover Yellow Bird, Allen Malaterre, Curtis Poitra, Carty Monette, Les LaFountain, Vernon Monette, Bill Monette, Allen Schlenvogt, Ronnie Poitra, Eugene Desjarlais, Gary DeCoteau, David Dauphinais, Clarence Frederick, Isadore Gourneau, Jim Brunelle, Ed Poitra, and Roger Hall.  Drum Group is Eagle Nation.

Funeral Services are Thursday, March 18, 2021 at 9:00 AM in St. Ann's Catholic Church, Belcourt, ND with Fr. Jim Mulligan and Deacon Francis Davis presiding.  Burial will be in St. Ann's Catholic Cemetery, Belcourt, ND in the spring.
