Lyla Bertsch, age 99, of Rolla, ND passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 22, 2025 at SMP-St. Kateri Hospital, Rolla, ND.

Lyla LaRee Ellis was born on August 25, 1925 in Willow City, ND to Marvin and Laura (Kitzman) Ellis.  She was raised in Willow City and Upham, ND, where she completed her education.  Lyla was united in marriage to Thomas Bertsch on December 20, 1944 in Kramer, ND.  Together they raised a family of five children, Leland, Cordell, Roxann, Renae, and Cheryl.  Lyla and Tom worked side by side building and woodworking, which they both enjoyed, building their lake house together from scratch at Lake Upsilon.  Lyla worked various jobs throughout the years but most importantly was a wonderful homemaker, wife, mother, and grandmother.  She enjoyed the outdoors tending to her garden and her flower gardens which brought her much joy.  In later years Lyla enjoyed reading and became a movie goer as well helping at the theatre in Rolla.  Lyla loved time spent with her family members, her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.  She will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by them all.

Lyla is survived by her daughters, Roxann (Lowell) Huovinen of Joshua, TX, Renae (Howard) Good of Rolla, and Cheryl (Curt) Bonn of Rolla; daughters-in-law, Cooky Bertsch of Lake Upsilon and Cindy Bertsch of Trout Creek, MT; 11 grandchildren, Tom (Steph) Bertsch, Nicole Nel, Dustin (Abigail) Bertsch, Courtney (Justin) Frank, Todd (Jessica) Huovinen, Kristy Huovinen, Tami (John) Olson, Wade (Leah) Good, Michael Bonn, Stephen Bonn, and Janessa (Joshua) Bonn; 16 great grandchildren, Abby (Gavin) and Ava Bertsch, Maren Nel, Luke, Peter, James, Thomas, and Paul Bertsch, Sheldon, Andrew, and Jerimiah Frank, Erin Huovinen, Jake West, Jonathan Olson, Joshua and Eric Good; sister-in-law, Teen Ellis of Minot; and many nieces and nephews.

Lyla was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin and Laura Ellis, husband, Thomas Bertsch, sons, Leland Bertsch and Cordell Bertsch, granddaughter, Andrea Bertsch, and siblings, Lloyd Ellis, Harlan Ellis, Alton Ellis, Dorrel Ellis, Lorraine Jones, Ardis Miller, and Elaine Tong.

A visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Tuesday, May 27, 2025 at Elick Funeral Home, Rolla, ND with a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM.  Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, May 28, 2025 at Rolla Presbyterian Church, Rolla, ND with visitation one hour prior to services in the church.  Burial will follow funeral services at Rolla City Cemetery, Rolla, ND.
