Lionel Martin, age 44, of Belcourt, ND passed away on Sunday, February 9, 2020.

Lionel James Martin, "Flying Eagle" was born on September 29, 1975 in Rugby, ND, the son of James Martin and Carrie (Gourneau) Wilkie. He was raised in Belcourt and completed his education at Belcourt Schools. Lionel furthered his education for two years at college. He worked in welding and construction throughout the area. Lionel loved being outdoors and was very good at fixing a variety of things, always willing to lend a helping hand where it was needed. He enjoyed collecting Hot Wheels and his sense of humor and happy demeanor will always be remembered. Lionel was a wonderful son, brother, uncle, and brother-in-law. He loved his family dearly and was always caring for and helping his parents whenever he could. His loyalty to his friends was unwavering. Lionel will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by his family members and many friends.

Lionel is survived by his parents, James Martin of Belcourt and Carrie (Lawrence) Wilkie of Belcourt; brother, Craig (Luz) Martin of Aberdeen, SD; nephew, Jade (Laura) Martin; nieces, Thalia Martin, Rashel Martin, Elizabeth Martin, and Evelyn Martin; great nieces, Aubrey and Isabel Martin; God parents, Clark Gourneau and Colleen Davis; and Godchildren, Sam Lunday and David Longie.

Lionel was preceded in death by his twin sisters, Anne and Marie Martin and his grandparents, Isadore and Evelyn Gourneau and Edward and Agnes Martin.

Casket Bearers are Chad Laducer, Steve "Bucky" Grant, Brent Lunday, Kevin Wallette, JR Reed, and Cedric DeCoteau. Rosary led by Randy and Lyla Gourneau. Music by Leonard Keplin and Jeff Laducer. Readers are Snuzzy (Stephanie) Laducer and Judy LaRocque. Eucharistic Gifts by Clark and Phyllis Gourneau.

A visitation will begin at 5:00 PM on Thursday, February 13, 2020 at St. Ann's Catholic Church, Belcourt, ND with a Rosary Service at 7:00 PM. Funeral Mass will be Friday, February 14, 2020 at 2:00 PM in the church with Fr. Tony Hession presiding. Burial will be in St. Ann's Catholic Cemetery, Belcourt, ND.
