Lewis Poitra, age 76, of Belcourt, ND passed away on Monday, October 21, 2024 at Rolette Community Care Center, Rolette, ND.

Lewis Daniel Poitra was born on January 7, 1948 in Belcourt, ND to Julius H. and Laura (Gladue) Poitra.  He was raised in Belcourt and completed his education there as well.  Lewis joined the Job Corps shortly after high school and furthered his education in cement work.  He was united in marriage to Joyce Bercier on November 10, 1971 in Belcourt.  Together they had three daughters, RaeAnn, Cheryl, and Staci.  Lewis worked many jobs throughout his life before retiring including bricklaying, cement work, carpentry, mechanic work, and as a farm hand.  He enjoyed listening to music and tinkering on cars with his mechanic skills.  He loved spending time with his family members, especially his grandchildren.  He shared many stories of his younger years with family and friends, always having a sense of humor.  Lewis liked traveling and driving fast!  He will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed.

Lewis is survived by his daughters, RaeAnn Youngbird of Fargo, Cheryl Blue of Belcourt, and Staci (David) Longie of Belcourt; eight grandchildren, Jerzee, Tyrone Jr., Norrin, Henry, Molly, Tristin, Maurice, and Lizzi; siblings, Judy Fedde of Freemont, Calif., Lester Poitra of Warm Springs, Oregon, Leslie Poitra of Belcourt, Jeanne Charbonneau of Belcourt, June Poitra of Belcourt, and Janice Poitra of Belcourt; and many nieces and nephews.

Lewis was preceded in death by his parents, Julius H. and Laura Poitra, wife, Joyce Poitra, brother, Joseph E. Poitra, and sister, Linda Brunelle.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, November 4, 2024 at St. Ann's Catholic Church, Belcourt, ND with visitation beginning at 8:00 AM and Rosary Service at 9:00 AM prior to the funeral mass. Burial will follow at St. Ann's Catholic Cemetery, Belcourt, ND. A meal will follow services at Fiddler's Hall, Belcourt, ND.
