Laverna Gores, age 86, of Rugby, formerly of Rolla, ND passed away on Sunday, November 1, 2020 at Heart of America Medical Center, Rugby, ND.

LaVerna Elda Gores was born on February 26, 1934 to Edward and Elda (Tuenge) Lentz in Rolla, ND.  She was raised in Hansboro and attended Picton School and completed her education at Rolla High School.  LaVerna was united in marriage to Lawrence Gores on February 17, 1953 in Bisbee, ND.  Together they had seven children, Elda, Earl, Dennis, Joseph, Andy, Becky, and Corey.  They lived in Bisbee and then moved to a farm near Hansboro where they raised their children.  LaVerna and Lawrence raised small grains, sheep, and milked cows on the farm and in 1987 made their home in Rolla.  LaVerna enjoyed quilting, making quilts for all of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and sewing, belonging to a group that made quilts for the sick and the elderly.  She also liked bowling, working on puzzles, playing card games, coloring pictures, fishing, and crocheting, as she made pot holders and many things for her family and her friends.  She was active in her community as a member of St. Joachim Catholic Church and Altar Society, a life member of VFW Mooney-Carnahan Auxiliary #8196 of Rock Lake and was past State President (99-2000), American Legion Auxiliary of Rolla, Senior Citizen Club, and the Nutrition Board.  She traveled extensively for VFW to meetings and conventions all over the United States.  LaVerna worked as a meat cutter, in road construction, as a bus driver, a nurse aide, home caregiver, and many other odd jobs throughout the years.  LaVerna loved time spent with her family members and many friends throughout the community.  She moved to Haaland Estates in Rugby on July 22, 2017 until the present.  LaVerna will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed.

LaVerna is survived by her children, Dennis (Paula) Gores of Bismarck, Andy (Helen) Gores of Hansboro, Becky (Todd) Anderson of Binford, and Corey (Barbara) Gores of East Grand Forks, MN; 14 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and siblings, Theodore "Gene" Lentz, Vernon Lentz, Adeline Guderjohn, and Helen McCartney.

LaVerna was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Elda Lentz, husband, Lawrence Gores, daughter, Elda David, sons, Earl Gores and Joseph Gores, grandchild, Chase, and siblings, Walter Lentz, Clarence Lentz, Leona Leftwich, Rose Thue, Edward Lentz, Marlynn Lentz, and Agnes Skime.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, November 5, 2020 at 3:00 PM at the Hansboro Cemetery, Hansboro, ND.  A visitation will be from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM at Elick Funeral Home, Rolla, ND prior to graveside services. Father Thai Arul presiding.
