Obituary

Joseph F. LaFromboise, age 79, of Belcourt, ND passed away on Thursday, September 5, 2019 at the Belcourt Hospital, Belcourt, ND.
Joseph Francis LaFromboise was born May 30, 1940 in Belcourt, ND to Joe and Elise (Marion) LaFromboise Frank.


Joseph attended St. Ann's School in Belcourt until the family moved to Rolla where he attended school in Rolla. He then left to attend Flandreau Indian High School in Flandreau, SD. From Flandreau he moved to Devils Lake and attended school there, finally returning to Belcourt and graduating high school with the class of 1959.


After graduating from high school, Joe enlisted in U.S. Army later receiving an honorable discharge. After he was discharged from the military he moved to Lawrence, KS furthering his education.


After living in Kansas, Joseph moved to Florida for a few years. He always stated that he was going to move back to Florida one day. From Florida he moved back to Bismarck, North Dakota. While in Bismarck he worked at United Tribes Technical College for the Federal Bureau of Prisons as a probation officer for Native Inmates. While there, he met and married Roxie (Schuschke) LaFromboise and from Bismarck they returned to Belcourt. He and Roxie have one daughter, Joy LaFromboise. Joe worked for Dave and Phyllis Jollie when they first opened Jollies Fairway. He later worked as a probation officer and a drug and alcohol counselor in Belcourt. The family later moved to Wahpeton where Joe worked as a counselor and dormitory manager at the Circle of Nation Boarding School. Joe later returned back to Belcourt where he lived until the time of his death.
Joe is survived by his wife Roxie, daughter Joy, grandson Max who was truly the apple of his eye. He is also survived by siblings, Geraldine Marcavage, Richard (Jiggers) LaFromboise, Madonna Seelhammer, Genavive LaFontaine, Dennis Blue, Jack Blue, Marcus Blue, Linda Blue, Barron Blue, and Marvin (Tweety) Blue. Joe also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, family and friends.


He is preceded in death by his parents, Joe LaFromboise and Elise Frank, grandparents, Eli and LouiseAnne (Azure) Marion, and siblings Maria (LaFromboise) Overbay, Gerald LaFromboise, Martin Blue, Vivian Rosebear, Saddie Smith, Marie (DeeDee) Rivard, Patricia Malaterre, Lawrence (Buzzy) Blue, Richard (Sonny) Pays, Shirly Dauphinais, Darlene Blue, Geraldine Baker, Alfred (Duane) Blue, Ronnie Blue and Sandra Hess.
Throughout his life Joe enjoyed playing cards, especially pinochle and cribbage, horse racing, golf, pool, horse trading for treasures, driving around the country side, and visiting with friends and family. For the past eight years he enjoyed every moment spent with his Max.


A meal and gathering for family and friends will be held on Friday, September 13, 2019 from 5:00 to 9:00 PM at the KC Hall, Belcourt, ND.
