John Marcavage, age 86, of Devils Lake, ND passed away on Saturday, December 28, 2019 at his home.

Deacon John Robert Marcavage was born on January 12, 1933, in Hazelton, Pennsylvania to John Simon and Mary (Reklaitis) Marcavage. He was raised and educated in Chester, PA. John received his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry at Pennsylvania Military College and received the Outstanding Chemist Award from the American Chemical Society in 1955. He served as a Lieutenant in the United States Army Chemical Corps and was an instructor at Fort McClellan, Alabama.

He was united in marriage to Geraldine Marie LaFromboise on April 27, 1957. Together they had six children, Mary Jo, John, Maria, Geraldine, Gloria, and Julianne. John was a chemical engineer for Scott Paper Company, Pennsylvania, J.B. Martin Company, South Carolina, and Turtle Mountain Manufacturing, North Dakota. John and Geraldine owned and operated Expressions of Love floral shop and A Cut Above hair salon in St. Paul, Minnesota.

In 1986, John became a Deacon through the Fargo Diocese Diaconate program and was ordained in Belcourt, ND at St. Ann's Catholic Church. John enjoyed the outdoors especially going golfing, fishing, bowling, and gardening. He reaped the benefits of his garden by canning and preserving vegetables and making wine. He loved to cross stitch, put puzzles together, and solved sudoku in his spare time. He loved spending time with his family and many friends. John will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed.

John is survived by his wife, Geraldine Marcavage; children, Mary Jo Marcavage of Lexington, SC, John (Rita) Marcavage of Devils Lake, Maria (Alan) Vormestrand of Devils Lake, Geraldine Marcavage Peltier of Bottineau, Gloria (Clarence) Davis of Belcourt, and Julianne (Steven) Senn of Newberry, SC; 21 grandchildren, Jacalin Shealy, Travis Marcavage, Justin (Richanda Marcavage, Kyle (Jessica) Brunelle, Alexandria Brunelle, Gerianne Brunelle, Elena Clary, Cameron (Hayley) Clary, Ashley (Cole) Strong, DeWayne Vormestrand, John (Brittany) Peltier, Paul Peltier, Jair Peltier, Mary Peltier, Julia Davis, Chugger Davis, Gia Davis, Jackson Davis, Elyssia Marcavage, Joseph Voest, and Julian Senn; and 16 great grandchildren, Logan, Devin, Anastasia, Jonathan, Kaiden, Insley, Adaline, Dayton, Isaac, Jade, Scarlet, Maximus, Khaliyah, Jack, Apollo, and Aubree. His sisters, Delores Matthews of Media, PA and Gloria Stickel of Bryn Maur, PA; brother-in-law, Richard (Linda) LaFromboise of Belcourt; sisters-in-law, Madonna Seelhammer of Frankfort, Kentucky, Roxie LaFrombosie of Belcourt, and Maggie Larkin LaFromboise of Rolla; and many nieces, nephews, and Godchildren.

John was preceded in death by his parents, John Simon and Mary Marcavage, mother-in-law, Elise Frank, father-in-law, Joseph LaFromboise, brothers-in-law, William Matthews, Richard Stickel, Joseph LaFromboise, Gerald LaFromboise, and Wayne Seelhammer, sisters-in-law, Maria Overbay and Lois LaFromboise, and great grandson, Emerson Grey Brunelle.

Casket Bearers are John Richard Marcavage, Alan Vormestrand, Clarence Davis, Steven Senn, Kyle Brunelle, Justin Marcavage, Kyle Brunelle, John Peltier, Paul Peltier, Chugger Davis, Jackson Davis, and Joseph Voest. Honorary Bearers are Jair Peltier, Travis Marcavage, and Julian Senn.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, January 3, 2020 at 2:00 PM in St. Ann's Catholic Church, Belcourt, ND with visitation beginning at 12:30 PM, Eulogy will be at 1:00 PM followed by a Rosary Service at 1:30 PM, and burial in St. Ann's Catholic Cemetery, Belcourt, ND. Military Honors by the Lilley Dionne American Legion of Belcourt, the Military Funeral Honor Guard of Grand Forks, and Knights of Columbus of Belcourt. All family and friends are welcome for a meal at the KC Hall.
