John "Chewy" Demery, age 53, of Belcourt, ND passed away on Sunday, December 17, 2023 at Quentin Burdick Memorial Hospital, Belcourt, ND.

John "Chewy" Demery entered eternal life on December 17, 2023. He was a loving son, brother, uncle, great uncle and friend. He will be greatly missed within his family and throughout our community. John "Chewy" Demery was born on November 11, 1970, to John and Mae (Davis) Demery in Belcourt, North Dakota. John grew up in his community surrounded by his family. John enjoyed playing various sports and socializing with friends while listening to his favorite genre of music 'classic rock'. John attended the community schools throughout his life and went on to further his education at the Valley City State College, Mayville State College, and the Bottineau State College where he received his associate degree and his Paraprofessional licensure. John then dedicated his adult life to educating our youth while being a paraprofessional at the Turtle Mountain Community High School for 20+ year. During the span of his career, John was honored to coach in various sports, including football, and boys' and girls' basketball. During his leisure time, John enjoyed golfing, watching his favorite teams the Miami Dolphins and the Carolina Tar Heels, playing blackjack, and spending time with his family and many close friends while visiting and listening to music.

John is survived by his sister Doris (Demery) McCloud of Belcourt, ND, brother Rick (Barbara) Demery of Cleveland, OH, and sister Paula (Rick) DuBois of Dillon, MT. John was also survived by his niece Angel (Mitchell) Poitra of Belcourt, ND, Justin Demery of Grand Forks, ND, Jessica Demery of Belcourt, ND, Julie (Corey) LaVallie of Belcourt, ND, Gheramy (Miranda) Demery of Cleveland, OH, Krista (Zach) Smith of Cleveland, OH, Joshua Demery of Torrance, CA, Christopher Demery of Bismarck, ND, Jordan Demery of Atlanta, GA, Timmy Demery of Bismarck, ND, and Wyatt DuBois of Dillon, MT. John was survived by his God child, Jacob Poitra of Fargo, ND as well. John was also survived by many great and great-great nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.

John is proceeded in death by his parents John and Mae Demery, sister Barbara Ann Demery, and brother Tim Demery.

Services for John "Chewy" Demery will be held at the St. Anns Catholic Church, Belcourt, ND on Friday, December 22, 2023. Visitation will begin at 8 am, rosary to follow at 9 am, and funeral mass at 10 am. Following John's services, there will be a meal located at LaDots Hall, Belcourt, ND. Internment will take place in the Spring of 2024 at the St. Anns Cemetery
