John Gilbert Allery, age 69, of Dunseith, ND passed away on Friday, November 13, 2020 at Sanford Hospital, Fargo, ND due to complications of COVID.

John "Big John" Allery was born on November 16, 1950 in Belcourt, ND to Jack and Angela (LaFloe) Allery.  He was raised near Dunseith and completed his education at Dunseith Day School, St. Joseph's Indian School in Chamberlain, SD, and Belcourt Schools.  He enlisted in the United States Army in 1970 and received an honorable discharge in 1971.  He was a member of the US Army Reserves until 1976.  John was the proud father of four children, Shannon, John, Jaycee, Shannan and Jesse the loving companion to Elaine Nadeau for 38 years.  He worked as a truck driver for many years to provide for and spoil his family.  John was very generous and helped anybody he could, if he could.  He enjoyed watching the Minnesota Vikings "disappoint" him every year, as he said, and hanging out with his many friends and playing cards at the Garden Tap.  He also loved traveling and all the road trips that he and Elaine went on.  John will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed.

John is survived by his companion, Elaine Nadeau of Dunseith; children, John W. Allery, Shannon (Joel) Myhr, Jaycee Allery, Shannan Nadeau; seven grandchildren, Rhea Nadeau, Aaron Peltier, William, Emma, and Zachary Gladue, and Jack and Clara Myhr; one great grandchild, Zaltana Elaine St. Claire; siblings, Angela Mae (Joe) Johnson, Sharon (George) Champagne, Theresa Martinez, Tina Gillis, Mark (Cora) Allery, and Keith Allery; and many nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his father, Jack Allery, mother, Angela Allery, son, Jesse Allery, sister in law, Carla Allery, and grandparents, Robert LaFloe, Rosalie "Delia" Davis, Oglia Delorme, and Lewis E. Allery.

Military Honors by the Lilley-Dionne American Legion of Belcourt and the Military Funeral Honor Guard of Grand Forks, ND.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Wednesday, November 18, 2020 at 10:00 AM at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Belcourt, ND with a Rosary Service at 9:30 AM with Father Dave Brokke officiating.  Burial and Military Honors will follow services at St. Louis Catholic Cemetery, Dunseith, ND.
