Joanne Oakland, age 88, of Rolette, ND passed away on Thursday, September 26, 2019 at the Rolette Community Care Center, Rolette, ND.

Joanne Ruth Oakland was born on May 21, 1931 in Bozeman, Montana to Harold and Eunice (Clark) Barber. She was raised in Rolette and completed her education there as well, graduating from Rolette High School in 1949. She furthered her education at Minot State College obtaining a degree in teaching. She was united in marriage to Raymond Oakland on June 12, 1959 at Ox Creek Lutheran Church, Rolette. Together they raised four children, Jaci, Jon, Dean, and Donn. Joanne was a school teacher for Wolford, Bisbee, and Rolette Elementary School for 35 years, retiring in 1991. She was a member of Valle Lutheran Church in Rolette and the American Legion Auxiliary. Joanne enjoyed gardening, quilting, and Scandinavian cooking, making lefse, klub, and the best homemade buns. She loved time spent with her family members, especially her grandchildren, and singing with her sisters. She often played piano at the Care Center, where she resided the past four years. Joanne also cherished time spent during the winter months in California visiting son Jon and family for many years. She will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by her family members and many friends.

Joanne is survived by her children, Jaci Oakland of Langdon, Jon (Deb) Oakland of Temecula, Calif., Dean (Lori) Oakland of Bottineau, and Donn (Marla) Oakland of Hazen; nine grandchildren, Ashley, Cole, April, Justin, Matthew, Bethany, Austin, Jayden, and Breaunna; eight great grandchildren, Madison, Kaidyn, Rayce, Ryder, Loganne, Maverick, Scarlett, and Maximus; and sisters, Margaret Wittmayer, Donna Whaley, and Lois Olson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold Barber and Eunice and Albin Amble, husband, Raymond Oakland, and sister, Betty.
Casket Bearers are Vaughn Wittmayer, Jason Wittmayer, Kerry Jo Lervik, Cole Strong, Austin Oakland, and Bethany Blada. Honorary Bearers are her students she taught over the years.

A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, September 30, 2019 at 1:00 PM at Valley Lutheran Church, Rolette, ND with a visitation from 11:00 to 1:00 PM. Pastor Jim Odden officiating. Burial will follow at the Bisbee Lutheran Cemetery, Bisbee, ND.
