Obituary

Jean Pound, age 84, of Belcourt, ND, passed away on Sunday, May 17, 2026, at Quentin Burdick Memorial Hospital, Belcourt, ND.

Jean Geraldine "Jeannie" Pound was born on January 2, 1942, in Belcourt, ND, to Louis "Lefty" Frederick Sr. and Helen (Parisien) Peltier.  She was raised in Belcourt, completing her education through the 8th grade, then attending boarding schools in Fort Totten, ND, Wahpeton, ND, and Marty, SD.  Jean furthered her studies in California, completing job training and working as a seamstress while living there. She later received training from Job Service as a Nurses Aid and then completed on-the-job training as a Surgical Technician. She worked at Rolla Hospital for 10 years and retired from the Indian Health Service in Belcourt after 30 years.

Jean was united in marriage to Neil Pound on June 18, 1966, at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Belcourt.  Together they raised two daughters, Shelly and Nicole, and were foster parents for many.  Jean enjoyed playing softball, sewing, crocheting, cooking, and baking in her spare time.  She was a very social person, knew many people throughout her community, and loved visiting with those she came in contact with.  Jean will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered.

Jean is survived by her daughters, Shelly McAnally (Royce) of Minot and Nicole Pound of Belcourt; eight grandchildren, Jacie Card, Mary "Fynn" Gagnon, Amber Gagnon, Chayton McAnally, Mason McAnally, Coady McAnally, Jocelyn McAnally, and Parnell Rodman; four great grandchildren, Copelynn Hennis, Brixton Hennis, Adalynn Gagnon, and Lyra Chittenden; siblings, Nini Frederick of Belcourt, Blue Eyes Monnette of Belcourt,  Nellie Zerr of Belcourt, James (Susie) "Boston" Laducer of Bismarck, Leo "Nickie" Laducer of Bismarck, and Debbie Jetty of St. Michael, ND; and many nieces and nephews.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Neil Pound, grandson, Dalton Pound, and siblings, Louis "Chucky" Frederick, Mary "Puffy" Laducer, Johnny Frederick, Darlene Boppre, Stanley "Soldier" Frederick, Eugene "JR" Laducer Jr., and Anita "2D" Laducer.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, May 29, 2026 at 10:00 am at St. Ann's Catholic Church, Belcourt, ND. Father Richard Fineo presiding. A meal will follow funeral services at the Sprung Structure, Belcourt, ND.
