Deplazes
Nov 25, 1939 — Feb 1, 2024
James Paul Deplazes, born on November 25, 1939 to Plazi and June (Von Almon) Deplazes in Devils Lake, ND. He passed away peacefully, with his daughters by his side, February 1, 2024 at the age of 84 in Cando, ND.
Jim graduated from Wolford High School in the Class of 1957. He attended and graduated from Hanson Mechanical and Auto Body Trade School in Fargo, ND. In January of 1962, James married Jean (Armstrong) Tuomala. They had 2 daughters, Jamie Jean and Jodi Jolene. They later divorced. Although they divorced, they were lifetime friends until the end. Jean (Wilfred Tuomala) later remarried and had twin girls, Sandra Leigh and Sheila Leigh. Jim considered Sandra and Sheila his daughters. As all 4 girls grew up and had their own families, Jim and Jean (Wilfred) made sure that all family spent holidays, birthdays & many other family gatherings together in a loving environment. The love that Jim had for his daughters and their families was very apparent. Jim made sure that on Christmas he was in charge of making the best Prime Rib ever!! He also made the best homemade caramel rolls, which became his daughter's favorite! Jim loved to cook and create new recipes over the years. Jamie and Jodi joked with him that he only created one recipe that they couldn't eat!
Jim took over his family farm near York/Wolford area after finishing school and farmed until he retired. Farming was his life. Being a farmer, you knew your neighbors, which became lifetime friends. Jim enjoyed autobody repair and took great pride in his work. He enjoyed many fishing trips to Canada and a few summers at the campgrounds in Killarney, Manitoba. Jim had worked part time at the Corrigidor in Wolford, after retiring from farming. He enjoyed meeting and visiting with friends and people that he had met over the years. Jim's hobbies included collecting John Deere toy tractors, collecting coins and had collected many ornate Jim Beam bottles over the years and he loved putting puzzles together. Jim liked to draw, in fact he designed one of his 3 tattoo's, which was a drawing he had made of his 1992 Corvette.
