James Chase, age 85, of Dunseith, ND passed away on Sunday, September 29, 2024 at Quentin Burdick Memorial Hospital, Belcourt, ND.

James Frederick "Jimmy" Chase was born on February 14, 1939 in Belcourt, ND to Frederick and Rosalie (Thomas) Chase.  He was raised in Belcourt and completed his education there as well.  James furthered his education at college in South Dakota obtaining a degree in business and plumbing. He was united in marriage to Margaret Belgarde on August 12, 1982 in Belcourt.  James the proud father of 13 children, Miranda, Jesse, Merle, Frankie, Marilyn, Tina, Jimmy Jr., Lisa, Wanda, Kim, Jeff, Gilbert, and Tony. He loved time spent with his family members and friends, visiting and keeping in touch.  James worked construction jobs throughout the years not only in North Dakota but in Montana and South Dakota as well.  James enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and camping.  He liked traveling and especially "junking." He was dearly loved by his family members and will be greatly missed.

James is survived by his children, Miranda (Shawn) Morin of Dunseith, Jesse Lee (Jannette) Chase of Belcourt, Merle Chase of Belcourt, Frankie Chase of Belcourt, Marilyn (Blaine) Chase of Goodrich, Tina Chase of Grand Forks, Wanda (Carlos) Turcios of Dunseith, Kim (Cliff) LaVallie of Belcourt, Jeff Handeland of Dunseith, and Gilbert Handeland of Dunseith; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, and great great great grandchildren; siblings, Ron (Thanh) Johnson of Montana, Lonnie Johnson of California, Bob Johnson of Rolette, and Judy (Ivan) Lundstrom of Gwinn, Michigan; and nieces and nephews.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick and Rosalie Chase, wife, Margaret Chase, sons, Jimmy Chase Jr. and Tony Morin, daughter, Lisa Chase, and brothers, Ronnie Chase and Don Johnson.

Casket Bearers are Shawn Morin Jr., Josh Handeland, Clifford LaVallie Jr., Clayton LaVallie Sr., Jesse Alen Chase, and Daniel Chase. Eucharistic Gifts by Jesse Alan Chase and Daniel Chase. Readers are Jannette Chase and Kayce Beston. Pall placed by his children.

A visitation will begin at 5:00 PM on Thursday, October 3, 2024 at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, Dunseith, ND with a Rosary Service at 7:00 PM.  A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, October 4, 2024 at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, Dunseith, ND. Father Tony Hession, SOLT presiding.  Burial will be held in St. Ann's Catholic Cemetery, Belcourt, ND at a later date.
