Helen Peterson, age 95, of Rolla, ND passed away on Thursday, August 8, 2019 at Presentation Medical Center, Rolla, ND.

Helen Jane Peterson was born on May 11, 1924 in Rolette, ND to Adam and Hannah (Hauge) Stavert. She was raised in Picton Township and completed her elementary and high school education through correspondence classes at home. She furthered her education throughout the years attending Minot State University from 1957 to 1967, obtaining a Bachelor of Elementary Education. She then received her Master's Degree from the University of North Dakota in 1970.

Helen was united in marriage to Clarence A. Peterson on October 2, 1948. Together they raised two sons, Kenneth and John. Helen was a school teacher/principal for 35 years teaching in Hansboro, Picton Township, St. John, and finally in Rolla retiring after 25 years. Aside from teaching, Helen's heart was on the farm working with her husband and her children. From a very young age she enjoyed working the land and continued to do so at 95 years of age. She liked spending time in her large garden, canning her produce, and caring for her flowers. In her younger years, Helen was very good at sewing. Throughout the years, she and her husband would travel to Idaho to visit their son and his family, which they greatly enjoyed. Helen was a member of the Rolla Presbyterian Church and the Rebekah Lodge. She was also treasurer of Picton Township for 36 years from 1982-2018. Helen will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by her family members and many friends.

Helen is survived by her sons, Kenneth H. (Susan) Peterson of Idaho Falls, ID and C. John (Carolyn) Peterson of Rolla; four grandchildren, Matthew (Marian) Peterson of Rolla, Jesse Peterson of Denver, CO, Luke (Jasmin) Peterson of Idaho Falls, ID, and Kendra Peterson of Grand Forks; three great grandchildren, Brielle, Bronx, and Braya, with one great grandchild on the way in September; sister, Irene Howitz of Tehachapi, CA; brother-in-law, Russell (Denise) Peterson of Manchester, WA; and sister-in-law, Kay (Fred) Snipes of White Fish, MT.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Adam and Hannah Stavert, husband, Clarence A. Peterson, an infant brother, sister and brother-in-law, Cecelia and Gordon McFadgen, and brother-in-law, Jim Howitz.

Casket Bearers are Luke Peterson, Matthew Peterson, Jesse Peterson, Jim McFadgen, Sean Magee, and Ed Overby. Honorary Bearers are all family and friends.

A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, August 17, 2019 at 11:00 AM at the Presbyterian Church, Rolla, ND with a visitation One Hour Prior to funeral services. Pastor Rick Craig officiating. Burial will follow at the Rolla City Cemetery, Rolla, ND.
