Harvey Joseph J.R. Poitra, age 43, of Dunseith, ND passed away on Monday, July 3, 2023 in Dunseith, ND.

Harvey Joseph J.R. Poitra was born on October 16, 1979 in St. Paul, Minnesota to Harvey "Cochise" Poitra and Jeanette St. Claire.  He completed his education, obtaining his GED.  J.R. worked for Alexandria Industries for 6 years and worked odd jobs before that time. He loved listening to music and being outdoors, enjoying bonfires and going to the lake, and floating down the river with family and friends.  J.R. liked sports, an avid Vikings fan, and UFC, was a true home team fan, but often rooted for the underdogs.  He loved to cook, his favorite meals were spaghetti, pork chops, chili cheese dip, and mac and cheese with fried potatoes.  He loved to barbecue.  J.R. was always friendly and had the ability to light up any room.  His laughter could be heard throughout the house and he always got along with everyone, making friends where ever he went.  He had a wonderful sense of humor, often the jokester in the room.  J.R. loved doing things with his children, taking his family to Valley Fair, going to the beach, and spending nights at home watching movies and playing just dance with is daughters.  Family meant the most to him.  He would give you the shirt off of his back if you needed it, always there for anyone.  J.R. will be truly missed and loved every day.

J.R. is survived by his wife, Stephanie; son, Trey; daughters, Neenah, Jayda, and Jordian; mother, Jeanette; brother, John; sisters, Gina, Sherry, and Ajay; nephew, Jayce; niece, Shylah; aunts, uncles, and a village of cousins.

J.R. was preceded in death by his father, Harvey "Cochise" Poitra, grandpa, Leon Poitra, grandma, Agnes Poitra, grandpa, Robert St. Claire, grandma, Lorraine St. Claire, and Godfather, Vance St. Claire.

A Graveside service will be held on Friday, July 14, 2023 at 10:00 AM at St. Ann's Catholic Cemetery, Belcourt, ND followed by a gathering and meal at Eagle Heart Cultural Center (Log Cabin), Dunseith, ND.
