Gladys Vallie, age 90, of Rolette, ND, passed away on Sunday, February 26, 2023 at the Rolette Community Care Center, Rolette, ND.

Gladys Marie Vallie was born on November 19, 1932 in Rolla, ND to Corbert and Emma (Bruce) Poitra.  She was raised in Belcourt and completing her education at age 16 to start her family.  Gladys married Dan Vallie Sr. on June 7, 1949 in Belcourt.  Together they had seven children, Billy, Dorsey, Melvin, Todd, Dan Jr., Gale, and Val.  Gladys worked for many years at tribal headquarters as a janitor, a major part of the day-to-day activities within. She enjoyed her work whether it was at the tribal offices, washing her car, milking cows in her younger years, going to the valley to work in the potato fields, or hauling and selling wood.  Gladys was a hard worker.  She also liked reading in her down time, books and magazines.  She was a wonderful mother to her children, always putting them before herself.  Gladys will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by her many family members.

Gladys is survived by her son, Daniel Vallie Jr. of Belcourt; Val Wendland of Rolette; and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, and great great great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, Corbert and Emma Poitra, husband, Dan Vallie Sr., sons, Billy, Dorsey, Melvin, and Todd Vallie, daughter, Gale Vallie, great granddaughter, Amber Wilkie, and Carmen Vallie, brothers, Clarence and Bill Poitra, and sisters, Theresa Davis, Bobby Malaterre, Yvonne Graber, and June Fallon.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, March 6, 2023 at 10:00 AM at St. Ann's Catholic Church, Belcourt, ND with a visitation beginning at 8:00 AM and Rosary Service at 9:00 AM prior to the funeral mass.  Burial will take place at St. Ann's Catholic Cemetery, Belcourt, ND in the spring.  Father Fred Alexander presiding.
